Well trekmovie just release a review of the first issue of the prequel comic to xi. The premise is that the "Hobus" star is about to go supernova and destroy Romulus and Spock needs to take a rare Romulan mineral back to vulcan, blah blah blah, and the senate doesn't want to. Anyway, what are the chances that a supernova from a nearby star system could even effect Romulus. I mean we're talking about astronomical distances here so the effects wouldn't even reach Romulus for x number of years anyway. Seems like a threat constructed on junk science.

Depends on the type of supernova. It might produce one hell of a gamma ray burst that could cook life in nearby star systems real good.

Indeed, the danger of nearby supernovae has been the subject of scientific conjecture for decades now. It's a real threat, hardly junk science.

Well, if he had actually quoted Shakespeare instead of making an ear pun it would've been better.

There was no reason to quote that passage from Shakespeare there other than to a) make a joke or b) demonstrate that the writer stayed awake in 9th grade English and wanted to pander to the eternal pretensions of Old Trek. Eh.

If you ever get the chance to see Nimoy's introductory film to his Even Horizon Theatre at the renovated Griffith Observatory, then go! It's hilarious, and demonstrates his off-kilter sense of humor. Likewise if you're ever at the Boston Museum of Science's Omni theatre, hope they do the sound test because he recorded a funny piece for that over 20 years ago.

My point was, to Vulcan/Romulans the pointed ears are normal, and not really worth mentioning. Like a haircut. Or a bowl cut.
I thought it was at least worth a chuckle.
One should also remember that the dialogue is really intended for US the reader to enjoy, not for the character's to debat about.
As for the Data thing, (spectulation) either that part of the story is pre-Nemesis or maybe it's B4 who after 8(?) years, has assumed Data's role???
