Spoilers The Science Behind Discovery's Burn

"Star Trek: Discovery's science consultants take us behind the scenes to explain how The Burn was created."

So... It was specifically only Matter/Anti-Matter reactors that need Dilithium and specifically only Matter/Anti-Matter reactors that would have been effected...

I am going to guess the writers never told the science consultant that there were others ways to generate high levels of energy in Star Trek.

Erin is a giant Star Trek Fan, mostly Voyager, she even has the ship tattooed on her. Star Trek got her into science IIRC.

But remember the consultants don't get final say, writers are allowed to ignore them.

It was like this back in the TNG era as well. The consultants mostly edited scripts to add real science words and terms to make things seem more 'real'.

''A wizard did it'.
Or you could actually read the darn thing.

We propose that the epigenetic changes (or his polyploid nature) caused Su’Kal’s vocal chords to develop in a manner where they resonate at the resonant frequency of the stable crystalline structure that ties dilithium from normal space to subspace. Because of this connection, his crisis permeated normal space as well as subspace. When Su’Kal cried out, he did so at the resonant frequency of the structure of dilithium, causing the subspace and normal-space portions of the crystal to dissociate.
Like opera singers breaking glasses XD

Yes it’s hard to believe that a franchise that regularly deals with human alien hybrids, made up elements, god like energy beings and psychic powers would have science consultants but it does.
Yeah like I said above, most of the time they just edit scripts to add real sciency words, this was even true in the TNG era, look it up.
Some writers will ask for more input if they feel inclined.

And again, the consultants are there to help if they’re asked, they’re not the final say on anything. That was also the same in the previous series.

People seem to overestimate the power the consultants have.
