The Sarah Jane Adventures S3 Discussion Thread (UK Pace)

its possible, but we do know that the Balthreen are going to be in the series finale, so I would not say that it WILL happen 100% officially confirmed, but it could.

Ah, a family of criminals - and who might chase criminals...?

well its possible, and im not saying they dont, but there is also talk of the Siltheen appering, I dont think we are going to have all 3 making an appearance in the finale.

The Dreamland refrence was at the start of episode 2, where "Sarah Jane" got the schematics for the alien ship from Mr Smith who got it from "Dreamland"

Great and just what I needed after a stressful day (watching kids telly at twenty past midnight whilst drinking a beer, I doubt I'm their core demographic!)

Sometimes I think this show might actually be more fun than Who itself, or maybe I'm just less expectant of it.

Nice to see Luke talking Mr smith out of exploding, although I was actually expecting Tiboe to use the recording of SJS he took earlier. He was great again, making them pay for parking was brilliant, and the authorised personel door and his obvious conversation with the other Judoon was wonderful. I'd love it if they brought him back but I can see the Vail coming back more, maybe in some kind of redemptive storyline?

I wonder if the Doctor will say "I would have taken you kids for a ride in the TARDIS but apparently your confined to Earth, and I hate getting on the wrong side of the Judoon."

I seriously hope Moffat keeps the big space Rhinos around from time to time...

The interior of the alien ship constructed out of nanomachines was a very impressive set and better than a lot of the sets featured in Berman era Star Trek.

I liked the two episodes, and I've never bothered with it until I knew The Doctor was showing up this season, and I thought I'd give it a bit of a try. I was slightly impressed. It held my attention throughout the entire 2 parter (I watched the first part via on demand before part two came on).

There were two things I really didn't like though, and in light of all the good points that I won't bother mentioning right now, these two very bad points almost completely ruined it for me. The first point, which probably isn't a problem in other episodes, was Lis' "evil" acting. Everytime she spoke like that I just kept saying "why do people who try to act evil, become sterotypical?". There was no need for all the awful headflicks, and all the other crap that came with it. But still, I'm sure that's only happened once.

The second thing, and this was the much more important reason why it was almost ruined for me. Rani's parents. To me, they're cringeworthy. Everytime those idiots came on screen I just felt like turning off the TV and washing my hands of SJA. My problem with the show is that, to me, it doesn't give itself enough credit. I know that it's primarily a childrens show (and to some extent, so is Doctor Who), but for fuck sake, take those talentless assholes off my TV. The whole amount of time they were on was just a time filler, and a pointless one at that. In the time they were on screen, we could have had some backstory to the "bad guy", anything. Watching the concrete pavement would have been better.

I think that, if the show gave itself a little more respect, there's so much more it can do. The CGI isn't great sure, but take out those fucking idiots.

Ugggh.

Other than that, it was good. Loved the ship, the plot was also fairly strong, good for an opener.

Rani's parents aren't that bad, and certainly not talentless. The woman palying her mum did a wonderful alternate universe Gita last season...

i enjoyed it. love Tybo.

good to see Clyde knows the classics as well as the popcorn with his Triffids reference vs Star Wars (again)

Oh I'd forgotten about Rani's parents. Yeah they were a pretty cool couple last season. Liked the dad especially. I really hope as part of the makeover they're not turning them into the shows 'wacky comedy relief'. :(

Yeah, having to type "sja" into youtube is a real chore. ;)

He might want a better quality & large screen than what YouTube provides

^This^
The tube is fine for music videos or clips of guys getting hit in the balls with footballs, but not for actually watching something I like (and want to keep, at least til the season set comes out).

Found a new source though, thanks to a helpful member.

Posting this here because I won't be seeing the Judoon opener here in Canada for a while and I want to avoid spoilers: according to the DW News Page, Season 3 got off to a strong start in the Appreciation Index ratings, scoring 81 and 86 for the two-parter:

It may not be generating the same viewership numbers as the parent show, but people at least seem to like what they see. I wish we had the AI system here in the North America. I think it'd be an eye opener.

Alex

ratings for SJA are never going to be good as Doctor Who, even when the Doctor is on it, since it airs as part of CBBC at 16:35 kids hours.

Just hope the viewing figures were there to match the AI. I guess the show doesn't have to break any records to keep going. Just keep outscoring the other kids shows.

Expect the numbers for the eps with the Doctor will be off the scale.

Prisoner of the Judoon - Part One
+ Watched 'live' by 0.6 million people on BBC One.
+ This gives an audience share of 5.9%.
+ An extra 40,000 people watched on the BBC HD Channel.
+ This is a 50% improvement on the programming that traditionally occupies this slot.

Prisoner of the Judoon - Part Two
+ Watched 'live' by 0.7 million people on BBC One.
+ The audience share here up, to 7.2%.
+ More than double the 0.3 million watching Hotel Trubble in the same time slot last week.
meanwhile some important must read spoilers for "The Mad Woman in the Attic

During part two of The Mad Woman In The Attic, we get treated to a flashback featuring the Third and Fourth Doctors as played by Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker respectively. The clips shown include The Time Warrior, Planet of the Spiders, The Hand of Fear and The Five Doctors. Not only that but we glimpse Sarah Jane's future too with the ominous phrase, "He is returning, he is coming back" and a clip of the TARDIS materialising in the Bannerman Road attic. Towards the end of the episode there's another flash forward (not the 'Next Time' I hasten to add) where we witness The Tenth Doctor, as played by David Tennant. Not enough nostalgia for you? Well, that little robot mutt K9 is back too - this time for good (so they say). And looks like Mr Smith is none too pleased...

That was good - very much in the vein of the typical plotlines from the first two seasons (time gone wrong, threat at a kids' attraction) but much better done and more original twists, and nice Time War ref.

Having said that, I pretty confidently predict that tomorrow we'll find out that Rani
isn't actually looking back from 2059, but is hallucinating all this while being a red-eyed zombie sat on one of the rides.

Anyhow, another strong episode, even though Luke, Sam and Adam all look too bloody similar (I spent the first couple of minutes thinking Adam *was* Luke).

The actors playing Harry and Old Rani looked frustratingly familiar too but I can't place them...

ETA- oh, Harry's Brian Miller, or Mrs SJS as it were... One down one to go...

you are right Luke, Sam & Adam are very alike, I assume there is some sort of connection between at least Sam & Adam.

I actually thought the first half of this episode was weak, but it really improved when we meet Eve, who could be quite a symapthic character, and not just a 2d Villain like some of the shows previous efforts.

I dont agree that the future is an hallucination, I just hope we do see more of Luke, Eve / Sarah Jane promises to be fantastic.

not really, it was only a next time trailer, no question I will when it happens for real, or maybe even in tomorrows episode.
