The Running Man (2025)

I finally got around to watching it during lockdown. It's the only Arnold film I've completely purged from my mind :techman:
I love the original film, and I'm going to love this one too, especially since it's going to be close to the original novel, which is what fans of the original novel and King fans in general want and expect.

Like the original too and agree that this seems to be closer to the book, so I'm definitely interested.

One of my mates certainly isn't though. The other might like it .(as he's a King fan anyway)

It better be closer to the original novel, otherwise what's the point? Remember when they claimed the Total Recall remake was going to be closer to the source material and it was just a carbon copy of the Arnold movie?

That's not entirely fair. While their claims were stupid on the face of it (they included Cohaagen from the first movie who is not in the original story) the remake never goes to Mars, which is arguably a pretty big deviation from the Verhoeven movie. (Removing the Mars angle ironically makes it less like the novella rather than more. :D)

If you were expecting the book when you watched the Arnold movie, it was disappointing. But the movie was a fun ride in its own right. However, I think a more faithful remake is worth a look.

though that may have been Cujo. I know he wrote The Running Man very quickly.

It was Cujo. And I remember the movie's writers saying that King was really glad they changed the original ending.
