The Running Man (1987).

EmmanuelZorg

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Fun yet smart and subtle futuristic satire on consumerism and people's diet of TV in the future. Loosely based on the Stephen King book, it has Arnold as a framed former cop that didn't commit a vicious mass murder as he plays a popular TV game show then after that try to fight the system.

It's got lots of action and suspense including a nice sense of humor, it even has a Orwell 1984-esque feel to it but for the 80's. One of my favorites!

Whitman, Price, and Haddad really enjoyed that movie. Wonder how they are doing?

Paula coreographed the dancers.

Arnold saw what a future dystopian California would look like and thus knew he had to run for governor someday...but that is another story. ;)

He was elected to lead us against the machines. Also Drew Carey will start a new show where prisoners are pitied against other prisoners.

Stupid movie. Missed the whole horror aspect of the original King story. Lame "humor" and weak "action". Just not very good.

I thought this movie was hilarious. I wasn't expected much, but it really cracked me up. :techman:

It wasn't bad. Had a Trek reference I believe.

Yeah Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood mac, his line was "Mr. Spock, you have the com".

He is a big Trek fan, he was also a Antedean dignitary in the episode ‘Manhunt’ from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Season Two.

I absolutely love this movie! It's cheesy, full of one-liners from Arnie, has Jesse Ventura and Yaphet Kotto in it, and is fun. It could also prove to be somewhat prescient, with the obsession with reality TV in recent years it could be argued that the Running Man's future is slowly coming true.

Brilliant movie.

Purely brilliant.

Granted, in an 80s cheese kind of way, but any movie that features Richard Dawson has my interest.

"There's nothing funny about a dickless moron with a battery up his ass."

Maria Conchita Alonso...gotta love her in there.

Even some of Arnold's non-zingers are funny "Shtap teacheeng da khanstatooshun to street punks..."

Arnold's only had a few villains better than Richard Dawson (the character's name is Killian, but come on, he's pure Dawson.)

It is defintely a dated movie in good (John Parr's hokey closing credits theme song) and bad ways (the lovely but cheesy dancers, generic b-movie "future" stylings).

It's like Death Race without the cars!

I bought the Running Man DVD on a blind buy yesterday. It was my last purchase with my employee discount before I was fired. :(

Fleetwood was actually playing himself in this movie, wasn't he?

Love that one Arnold line:

"Uplinks! Underground! Uplinks! Underground! If you don't shut up I'm going to uplink your ass, then *you'll* be underground!" :guffaw:

I think that was Proposition 13.

I've only read the book which I wholeheartedly enjoyed.

Movie's much better. ;)

Richard Dawson was funny as well...

"Get me the Justice Department, Entertainment Division."

"Hi, cutie pie! You know, one of us is in big trouble."

"Cap, will you spare me the Combat Zen speech?"

Fun and cheesy. It's got some great one liners and some nice Arnold action. What's not to like? :D. Not Arnold's best, but very entertaining, I think.
