The Runner is a futuristic sci-fi story about how the earth’s surface is made uninhabitable by an attack and a group of survivors in the Rocky Mountains discover a way to send a man back in time to stop the devastation. But the man they send is secretly motivated by saving the love of his life.
Disney is now developing The Runner as a vehicle for director Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Quantum of Solace);
Imagine’s Brian Grazer is producing alongside Brad Simpson, Forster’s Apparatus Entertainment partner. Dave Andron, who originated the concept with Blacklight Transmedia, will write the script. Imagine and Disney are aiming for a transmedia franchise with The Runner intended for simultaneous TV, video game, graphic novel and hand-held interactive content.

Sounds like Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) plot.
Well its to be produced by that Brian Grazer who is producing The Dark Tower movie (2013) & The Dark Tower TV series (2012).

Uh oh whenever a property is developed in the first place as a TV, video game, graphic novel you know it will be diluted. Since Disney is attached I guess they figure well if Tron Legacy can make money...

Huh....

Is this just the same crap distributed in different media? It would be so much more interesting if it were another attempt to find compelling and worthwhile ways to integrate scripted and interactive storytelling forms. It's a fascinating problem. I'm not sure it can ever be done gracefully. The minute you get a million internet bozos interfering with your story, either the story goes off the rails, or you have to limit their input so severely that it's not story input at all.

American Idol
voting is about as far as this sort of thing has progressed in a mass way. Those votes do change the "story," but it's not at all like making a decision whether the lead character does A, B etc through Z and then expecting a coherent and interesting tale to proceed from those options. Are you really going to write stories for all those options? That's 26 times as much work as normal!!! But limiting the bozos to three options is stupid because it's so canned.

And look at the chaos generated even by reality TV voting, with girls voting for guys just because they're cute and people who hate the show voting for that Sanjaya guy from a couple years ago just to fuck everything up. No storyteller who is worth a damn wants stupid or malicious people fucking with their story.
