The Romulan-Vulcan connection... a question (SPOILER)

I've only seen it once, and won't be going again for about a week.

Did anyone catch anything in the Kelvin scenes where Nero's people being Romulans was plainly stated, so the survivors would know, and likely note the obvious "Vulcan-ness" of them?

I noted that later in the film the Romulan-Vulcan connection was being tossed around casually WELL before it "should have" been known (as in "Balance of Terror").

Was anything PLAINLY said about Nero's people being Romulan, or was that NOT said?

I suppose maybe there could be energy signatures left behind after the Kelvin disaster that'd show Romulan tech was involved, so the truth could have come out that way, but was anything PLAINLY stated onscreen during those scenes?

I too have only seen it once and was a bit caught up in the action to notice, but if Nero had to wait 25 years then there's nothing to say that Starfleet didn't have face to face contact with the Roms in the intervening years.

I agree that this is somewhat strange. For one, was the visual look of all Romulans the same? Were they all bald with tattoos?

Perhaps in the 25 years that Nero was gone, he made some contact with humans. Or he made contact with Romulans, spurring them into contact with the Federation.
