The road to WNMHGB, 50 years ago

There's a lot of info online that tells the story of Roddenberry's road to The cage, the pre-production, the shooting and NBC's rejection.
There's much less info regarding the road to Where No Man Has Gone Before, even Memory Alpha is poor. NBC rejected The Cage and asked for a new pilot on February '65. What were the guys doing on March, 50 years ago? The winning story was written on April, the shooting started on July. When did NBC choose the winning story for the pilot?

Anyone knows good places online to look at?
Thanks!

Get to your local library and check out Inside Star Trek: The Real Story by Herb Solow and Bob Justman. Or buy it from Amazon. It covers the process pretty well.

That book's the best resource I know, and it's not available as an ebook. And you can get it online, by visiting Amazon or your library's website. Although a library wouldn't deliver it to your door.

Aye, Christopher is right. 'Inside Star Trek' is the most exaustive recounting of those events as is possible to find, IMO.

Watching this episode on MeTV right now. Some of the terms hadn't been nailed down yet. The transporter is called the materializer. And Kirk and Spock play chess in the Briefing Lounge.
