The Return of MSPaint...

And I took your suggestion, Flux Capacitor, regarding the nacelle pylons. Especially after I realized that the point where they joined the nacelles themselves interfered with the inward segments of the warp engine field grill. Thanks for the input!

Happy to be of some help. I'm looking forward to seeing the ventral view, as I'm wondering how the secondary hull will look where it meets the saucer, because from the fore view it seems like it will be very wide. Good work thus far!

Very, very slightly revised forward view. I narrowed the upper engineering section, where it joins with the saucer's ventral hull surface. Was having some trouble getting symmetry in the ventral view. Still working on that. More updates soon!

I can't honestly say that I'm thrilled about the placement of the nacelles and struts. Not because there's anything wrong with them, it's just that my personal preference is for the higher placements.

That said, your design compounds my problem because the secondary hull's lines are so gorgeous! To me, their bold, strong grace just BEGS for struts that follow their movement, as I have sketched:

Maybe at some point in the future, you could develop a second ship based upon your first, with high nacelles.

For the nacelles to go up they'd have to be mighty long nacelle pylons for them to clear the saucer... I think this particular design works better pointed down.

Finally, the WIP ventral view.

Lots of work to do, here...don't be afraid to post suggestions. I'll be needing 'em.

Taken on it's own terms, I think she's GORGEOUS!

(But I still reserve the right to hook up with some Klingons and hijack her on her shake-down cruise, and flip them nacelles UP!)

Hehe...I'll draw up an alternate version for ya. Soon as I get this blasted ventral view finished. Then all I have to do is the aft view and it'll be pretty much complete, save some small details.

And another minor update...reconfigured the area around the deflector dish to better match the forward view. Tricky stuff. You may also notice some changes...mainly, I've added traditional phaser arrays running longitudinally on the ventral surfaces of the saucer and engineering sections. You can also now see the two ventral torpedo launchers, the aft-ventral engineering section shuttle/cargo bays, and the ship's Ten Forward analog just ahead of the ventral saucer phaser array...the viewports facing aft, toward the main deflector array. There will be additional viewports facing forward. Subsequently, this ship's primary crew lounge will be something like walking into an airport terminal, with panoramic views to either side and the bar in the middle. Actually, it will also probably have two levels and two-story viewports, since the first level's deck will sit right on top of the "filler" between living spaces, maintenance areas, and the ventral outer hull.

Also thought I'd discuss the rotary torpedo launchers a bit more. I do love my weapon systems. Anyway, I found a video on YouTube that best depicts what a salvo from one rotary launcher tube would look like. Bear in mind that what you are seeing is thousands of tracers. Cut that down to ten tracers per salvo and you've got a rotary launcher.

Edited to add: almost forgot...really need some input on where I should place the ventral escape pods. Mainly in the saucer section.

Cool updates and a Rotary Photon Torpedo luancher is a good thing to have i think :) :techman:

Sorry, sorry. It's been quite some time since my last update. I'm getting ready to move about 3,000 miles, so...yeah. Life's crazy.

In any case, I've made some progress. Pretty much finished up the lateral, forward, and ventral views. Still some work to do on dorsal and aft (especially aft).

As always, I'm completely open to suggestions. Even more so now that the design is 95% complete. I think you can finally get a real sense of what she looks like. Still working on a way to get her translated to 3D. We shall see.

Wow. I REALLY like this design.

All I can think is that THIS is what the Sovereign class Ent-E *should* have been.

I know they tried to make the Ent-E sleeker and more kewl, but that design sucks hard. Too garish and too fanboyish and jarringly out of place with earlier lineage.

The Galaxy class was elegant and curvy and graceful and artsy and if any attempt was made to make it more graceful and sleeker--THIS is the only design I could envision. Very well done, I say.

(also, reminds me of one of the ships in the FASA TNG Manual, although I cannot recall which one)

*drum roll*

Annnd she's pretty much complete. Might be a few minor edits here and there, depending on feedback. You may notice a few changes. I added a pretty sizeable impulse engine system to the engineering section.

(Figured she might need that when separated. :techman:)

Also decreased the number of viewports in the ventral view, as it wasn't really consistent with the other perspectives. More than that, it was pissing off my perfectionist tendencies.

Thanks again for all the feedback and support over the past few weeks, everyone. It really helped me get through the project. I'm still open to suggestions, but as of now the design is finalized. Any further changes will be variants.

The lifeboats in the "line of fire" of the nav deflector aren't doin' anything for me.

Other than that... bloody MARVELOUS.
