The red glove (and other early rumors)

Before PIC premiered, a production photo emerged that showed someone wearing a red glove, and speculation went wild that maybe it was Judge Q, back for another round. Anyone know what it turned out to be? Maybe an XB with a limb CGI'd onto him/her?

There were so many rumors that got started from photos like that, or from the early trailers. Some infamous ones:
- Picard & Seven must be ex-lovers
- The dog is Q
- The dog is Odo
- The hero ship would be the old Romulan warbird
- The little "elf" turned out to be Kestra
- Mars blew up
- Section 31 attacked and blew up Mars
- The Enterprise-E and rescue fleet were destroyed by the supernova
- The Dominion was behind everything
- Seven was crying over Chakotay
- Dahj was a new kind of Borg
- Dahj was Picard's daughter
- Picard would die, and the hero ship would be named after him
- It was all a Q vision

What were some other theories & rumors that turned out to be wildly off-the-mark in retrospect?

I think the red glove on a golden staff thing was cut from the final episode - might show up in S2?

Dahj is the daughter of Data and the Borg Queen conceived during Star Trek: First Contact (offscreen), because the ages (almost) match up!

My friend wondering if Dahj was the daughter of Picard and Kamala from "The Perfect Mate".

Though, to be fair, I wasn't much better. I remember being open the idea of Dahj being the daughter of Picard and the Borg Queen and only not being 100% onboard because I didn't think the age would work. "The Best of Both Worlds" took place over 30 years earlier but Dahj only looked 20. So any bullshit rationalization to explain away how old she looked and I would've been like, "Okay, that could work." Hell, she could've been like me, and just looked young for her age. So I would've bought that too.

Picard & Seven must be ex-lovers
I thought that was dumb as soon as I heard it.

The Enterprise-E and rescue fleet were destroyed by the supernova
Yeah. I bought into this hook, line, and sinker. Though, to be fair, something still could've happened to the Enterprise-E.

I stand by the idea that if Picard wants to show the current Enterprise, it'll be the Enterprise-F. I think they'll want to have a new model to show off and have it be an Enterprise that was never Picard's, just to show the passage of time.

That feeds into another question I've been wondering about:
Was there an alternate ending written/filmed for season 1, in case PIC didn't get picked up for a 2nd season?

Perhaps there was an ending where the Irumodic Syndrome resulted in his death with no return, but brought about closure to the story as he sacrificed his life for Data's kids after Data had sacrificed his life for Picard's in NEM. Or Picard got taken out by 200+ Romulan warbirds. Either way, I'm curious to know if they had an alternate ending ready or even filmed.

If Dahj and Soji are twins, then they would each be only (approximately) 36 months old.

Not a match chronologically.

I wonder if the red glove was just something done up to drive the fans crazy? Has anyone bothered to ask Chabon?

The producers know we're poring over each trailer for spoilers.

It really would not be a surprise if Q does turn up at some point.

He has unfinished business with Picard.

Perhaps triggered by the fallout from the finale of the first season.

Alternatively it could be caused by Picards choices in S2.

Most cases this is true, but sometimes trailers let loose a big money shot, lessening the emotional impact of the finale. For example,
the big fleet of rebel ships in Star Wars IX that everyone already knew would appear when the resistance almost completely fell apart against Palpatine's destroyers at the end (love the fact the Ghost from Rebels was in it!):

Then there are the completely idiotic trailers that damn near show all the main plot points of the entire movie from start to finish, making it pointless to watch the whole thing. For some odd reason, "Free Willy" comes to mind with that one.

Yeah but the title "Free Willy" pretty much gives it away on its own really.

Ideally there would be something or someone named Willy in it, otherwise its just going to be dodgy 70's porn, admittedly the 80's was quite dodgy as well.

To make a point about trailers spoiling the film, you proceed to spoil it yourself. It still has a month of protection under the board's spoiler policy.

I think that's fine for kids movies so the parents know if their kids are gonna handle them well

The awful and inaccurate speculation the OP listed at the start of the thread is precisely why I don't like to read or engage in speculation. It's almost embarrassing the theories some people come up with.
