The Ready Room

RPOW0614

Commander
Red Shirt
Anyone watching this?

While I have enjoyed the interviews with the cast I think the interviewer isn't the best person for the job (I get a Chris Farley interviewer vibe from her) and whole show has a real "cable access" feel.

Matt Mira's "After Trek" wasn't the best show last year but at least it seemed professionally made.

Is this just me being picky or could this show be a lot better.

I tend to agree. I enjoyed the format and the BTS aspect of AfterTrek........and I personally think by the end of season one Matt had settled in but he was a giddy fan boy for the first few. (I would have been too) I wish maybe they had kept the format and got a more seasoned host......but the cost might have been more than the return they were getting from it.

I agree that Matt was a huge fanboy at first but he seemed to settle in after a few episodes. Having listened to him on Chris Hardwicks podcasts I had an idea of who he was and what to expect.

Naomi Kyle seems like a nice woman but her questions all seem to be like this...
"So you played Spock....what was that like?"
"So you played Pike....what was that like?"
"You are a woman playing the Klingon Chancellor.....what is that like?"

Maybe because I've binged the DSC and The Ready Room this last week I'm getting the condensed version of this and it is skewing my perception of the show and the host.

I don't think your view is that skewed. I've watched Disco weekly as soon as I could, and not once have I been able to sit through a whole Ready Room interview without my mind wandering and wishing there was more energy , more interesting questions.

That said , she did at least ask Frain an interesting question , but didn't really get a good answer .

I've barely bothered with them most weeks tbh. I just don't feel the interviews add anything for me. After Trek, at least felt like an event of sorts. Having multiple guests at once also helped, I think.

I like Naomi, but she does not ask good questions overall. Her follow-up questions are always odd, too, and they don’t invite in-depth answers from the actors. She is so nice and genuine, but not the best for that specific role.

I made it about a minute into the Mount interview, then turned it off.

I find the people here far more interesting and worthy of my time.

I agree. I have no problem with her as a person. Why should I, LOL?
She seems sincere in wanting to do a good show and is trying hard but maybe this isn't the best fit for her. Her monotone questioning and "odd" follow up questions are sleep inducing.

It's kinda like those interviews local TV do with stars of a new network TV shows for the local morning show at 0600......just awkward and a bit uncomfortable......

I actually miss Matt. I was critical of him last year, but at least he seemed to know his subject. And since then, I've had a chance to listen to his podcast work, which is very good.

TBH, I have found Anson Mount's podcast interviews with cast members more interesting. I learned a lot about Doug Jones, and it gave me new respect for Peck and *his* respect for the role of Spock, and not in a PR way that the usual interviews give off.

i found wading through after trek tedious to get to the BTS stuff and the ready room doesn't really seem to have any content that's particularly interesting to me.

i wish they'd split the difference and do something like HBO did for westworld: 5 minute breakdowns of the episode by the producers and/or segments about a specific aspect of the episode after it airs. sort of like moments of discovery, but more in-depth.

I don't think I've watched all of them, but I have watched most of the The Ready Room. I like getting inside the actors' heads to see where they're coming from and how they approach their characters.

IDK - I actually like the ready room better than the two episodes of "After Trek" I tried to sit through last season (aping "The Talking Dead" format IMO didn't work well) - and I couldn't stand the preening the host of it often did. I also don't mind the simpler setup, shorter runtime format, and focus on the one interview of the week's guest -- but that's me.

I much preferred "after Trek". The new show is just one long interview with an actor. "After Trek" was much more interesting. They also interviewed writers/producers/showrunners which I find more interesting, and showed a scene from the next episode

We'll send you an invoice for our time then.

(I could actually use a few extra bucks)

the only thing that kept me from watching After Trek was the host
