I'm interested. I like Poe and Cusack, but like you, I've heard very little about it. That kind of makes me think it won't be very good, or the studio *thinks* it isn't very good. But I'll go see it, nonetheless.
The actress who stars in it was on Craig Ferguson's show last week. The clip looked like it could be good, and I like John Cusack, but with the studio puttin' it out the week before Avengers opens just shows they don't have faith in their product. Even if it does manage to do well on its openin' weekend, it will be completely buried the second week.
I'm interested, but afraid it might be a trainwreck.
I'm a huge Poe fan. But I have to ask, must every movie be "extreme"? The man's life was already pretty damned interesting without adding in all of this serial killer stuff.
The idea of Poe hunting down a serial killer...well I love the guy, but he could hardly even take care of himself.
Anyway despite all of that, maybe it will turn out to be cool.

I was really excited to see this in the theater--I love John Cusack, he was very good in 1408...but the reviews for this are so bad! The movie is hovering around 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. I think I can wait for the $1 Redbox rental...
Yeah...I'm afraid I have to agree with most of the reviews. Some form of rental is probably the best way to see The Raven.
It was a good concept that failed in its execution. I hate to say it, since I love John Cusack...but he was miscast.
Overall it was a movie of missed opportunities, which is a bit of a shame.

Someone should just cast Johnny Depp as Poe and do a more-or-less accurate biopic someday. If they need to add supernatural elements, fine. They can be a result of alcoholism or Poe going nuts or something. Make it surreal and hallucinogenic.
Having seen "The Black Cat" and "Nevermore" I couldn't agree more! There has to be some way to make that work...doesn't there?...
In the meantime I'll have to be content with the potential "movie" that I can see in my head.

As a mystery, the movie plays fair. Cusack manages not to be Cusack, something I wasn't sure was possible anymore. The production design is top-notch. McTiegue's direction is actually quite restrained; there's only one or two moments of bullet-time hyperreality in the film.
The film isn't perfect. It can't decide who its main character is (we spend more time with Poe, but Fields does a lot of the heavy lifting), there are some pacing issues in the first forty minutes.
Overall, I thought it was quite enjoyable.
