"The Quiet Earth" (1985) film discussion

I finally screened The Quiet Earth (1985) on Netflix DVD. It was 9 minutes in before I thought this was England. (I thought it was USA). And then later thought the accent was enough to figure Australia or N.Z.
Pretty good first half. Good pacing and introduction of characters. It had moments of The Omega Man and I Am Legend but without mutated zombies. Wikipedia mentions:
Its other sources of inspiration have been listed as the 1954 novel I Am Legend, Dawn of the Dead, and especially the 1959 film The World, the Flesh and the Devil, of which it has been called an unofficial remake.
I've not heard of the last title.

The last act reminded me of Terminator 2's ending a little with the whole truck and all.
Overall I liked it and it was a general low budget movie but had good moments for a sci-fi post-apocalyptic film.
I wasn't wild about the last act or the ending. I can see a project like this as a miniseries from the UK or even a 12-part TV series.

2010 thread: So I saw "The Quiet Earth"

I love it, though I know from previous posts that not all here share that view... The first half is the most effective last-man-on-Earth story I've ever seen.
"You tell lies." :D

I thought the final scene was awesome. That huge planet rising over the horizon like that with those massive waterspouts...it actually gave me the creeps.

All I remember about this movie is the woman's rear end peeking out from under her shirt. What can I say I was 14 in 1985...
