The problem with "Archer's Theme"

Is I felt it was a bit too cheerful/hopeful for a theme that ends the show, a bit like TNG's theme. I think DS9 and VOY got the balance right, the theme over the end credits should be able to fit perfectly with a happy or whimsical ending, as well as a thoughtful or sad one. Whatever way a VOY/DS9 episode ended, the theme fit perfectly, unlike ENT and TNG.

For most (all?) of the show's run on UPN, we couldn't even hear the theme. The first time I heard it was when I bought the soundtrack album for the pilot episode (and then later on DVD). I'm hard pressed to even remember it now.

Oh look it's Gaith!

:: waves to Gaith ::

How come you couldn't hear it on UPN? Commercials?

It reminds me of the Shire theme in LOTR. It lacks a space grandeur IMO but it's not horrible.

In my opinion the problem of this theme is that it doesn't fit Archer, especially his nervous energy and inability to sit still, as well as Faith of the Heart.

They'd squeeze the image (to the point that you couldn't read the credits) and mute the audio in favor of a promo for upcoming programming (either the next episode of Enterprise or something else).

It's really Berman's theme. I guess he wanted a hopeful goody two shoes uplifting, optomistic theme. If you listen to it while thinking of J William's Darth Vader music in the background, you'll see what I mean. They fit together perfectly.

Did your UPN station air repeat viewings on Sunday evenings? Mine did, and the end credits were always clearly presented on those showings. Back when I was taping the show on VHS, I would always edit the Sunday ending on to the show over the Wednesday splitscreen credits with the ads.

It reminds me of the theme they'd play at the end of some bad early 90's sitcom that would be syndicated on USA Network... "Enterprise was filmed before a live studio audience!"

More like Enterprise was filmed before greedy power hungry predatorial suits. :guffaw: Slick musak. To save money for Berman's suits.

I never watched the show outside of it's first run timeslot, so I wouldn't know. The first time I heard the end credits theme was on the "Broken Bow" soundtrack album, and the first time I could actually read the credits was on home video (DVD).

Yeah, I never watched the weekend rerun either. I used to set my VCR for the last five minutes of the show in order to get the end credits. I did the same during the last three years of VOYAGER.

Oh, you mentioned the BROKEN BOW soundtrack. Were you disapointed that they did not put the pilot end credits on that CD instead of the regular series credits? I was, since it's the one version of "Faith of the Heart" I actually like.

To be honest, I haven't listed to that CD all that much. Despite the fact that Enterprise featured the most melodic music of the franchise since Ron Jones' work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, McCarthy's score to the pilot episode is rather unremarkable. It took the series a few episodes to break out of the sonic wallpaper mode and, unfortunately, only snippets of that music have found their way online (let alone an official release).
