The Prettiest Pop Song Ever (1900-present)

. . . Since no one has mentioned master melodist, Burt Baccarach, guess I will. Genius melodist. His "Kentucky Bluebird" (Message to Michael), "One Less Bell", "Walk on By", are some of my favorites, but I could go on and on with this guy. Other than McCartney, I can't think of anyone who has written as many beautiful songs.
I'd say Richard Rodgers is in the same league.

A few songs I've always considered among the prettiest:

Also, pretty much all of Joni Mitchell's For the Roses album.

I would go with Eleanor Rigby. Though I'm not sure how to translate the word 'Pretty' to music.
How about "euphonious"?

Sad but hauntingly beautiful.

Another selection. I really wish I could find the studio version on Youtube, but I guess this will do. Tried to go with the best sound quality I could find. I realize there are a lot of covers of this song, as I think the song originates in the 70's, but last year Nickel Creek came out with a new album and had this song on it and I immediately fell in love with it. Just so beautiful and haunting.

I stumbled upon this Christina Perri song while I was searching for something else on Youtube. I'd never heard it before:

She certainly deserves to be on this list.

"Words" is another of her beautiful constructs.
