I love the exciting first section of "Omega" the most, more than the pretty-good episode.

This also happened with ST:TMP. From the Overture to the point where Kirk boards the Enterprise, it's a fantastic movie. From there on, it's an okay movie with issues.

Yes. I believe it was Bob Justman who said that GR wrote some TOS scripts with great teasers, good 1st acts and okay 2nd acts. However, by the time he tried finishing the 3rd act and finale GR was running out of gas. IIRC, Justman called some of his closing script pages ‘abortions’.

It's one of the things I believe makes S2 weaker than most consider it. S2 is very heavy on "Parallel Earth" (or at least close enough to it) stories.
