My son was a chatty-Cathy about Alien VS Predator (he's 14) when I showed him that I had the DVD's for Alien and Aliens as well as Predator. Predator really got his attention, "Hey, how come he's killing those big Army guys -- ewww, he skinned the one dude" and then, he screamed and shielded his eyes like a big sissy while watching Aliens
Definitely don't mess with the classics.

BWA-HA-HA ''screamed and shielded his eyes'' and he's 14? You have ''got'' to be kidding! I saw ALIEN, & BOTH PREDATOR movie's when I was 12, and LOVED them!(still do!) Oh, and please never let your son watch the remake of THE FLY! if he had trouble with ''both''ALIEN & PREDATOR Movies, then he'll die from fright from the fly.

He doesn't like scary movies, which is why he freaked. It was in Aliens when they came out of nowhere that kept him freaking.

I want to get a copy of the original Jaws and watch him come unglued

Does that make me a bad father?

Let's hope they go with the original Predator design, not that shitty Stan Winston one that ruined the first film. Also, lets get Van Damme on board. He would've made the original a classic.

Huuuuuuge mistake. There is no way you're going to come close to the cast of the original. The only way the movie might be remotely tolerable is if the Rock was in it. I have a horrible feeling the producers would probably settle for John Cena.

Seriously, if you were casting this film for today who would your actors be.

Casting the film today huh?... I'd want Jet Li to be the Predator, and Jackie Chan to be the main protagonist... OH NO I MIGHT HAVE GIVEN AN IDEA.

Well what annoys me is that my nephew loves AvP and about a month ago I had to "babysit" for him, so I decided to show him Alien and Predator films and he seemed confused. He kept asking me in Predator why the Predator was "evil", and because he had watched AvP before the Alien or Predator series' he actually believed that the Predators were protagonists!!!! Of all things to take from the dreadful AvP movie.

It's not surprising. Then again, you can probably blame Predator 2 for turning them into noble savage/hunter Klingon types. AvP just ran with that.

The thing to remember, though, is that the Predators are honorable hunters who always seek out challenging prey. This doesn't make them bad guys, but it does make them very dangerous to anyone who can putting up a fight.

It doesn't? They're serial killers.

Well, not from their POV. From their POV, we're inferior prey. From their perspective they are no more murderers than a deer hunter is, or for that matter the lion who takes down his prey. And the predators have demonstrated that they don't kill unarmed or nonthreatening humans. They don't kill indiscriminately, they don't seem to kill each other. I get your point, from out POV they're supposed to be bad (and they are - to us), but I don't think they are "evil", just alien. For that matter, are the Xenomorph really "bad"? Is a tornado or a shark "bad"? Bad for us, sure, but morally?

Unarmed and nonthreatening humans is a point of view. And shit, who really thinks of themselves as evil from their POV? Of course the Predators wouldn't see anything they do as wrong.

I mean, worthy prey...men of a village with machetes and you are an alien with heat vision, a cloaking device and a plasma caster? Comparable to hunting deer? Maybe...maybe if we discover deer have a civilization, use tools, and are sentient.

When you take into account AvP, Predators fostered human civilization on Earth for their own selfish purposes.

So they are dicks.

I don't see the need for a remake, but I'd be fine with a sequel or prequel if it were done right (I actually prefer P2 to the original).

Make it 18s/ R for one. Get in a decent director instead of the hacks who have made the AvP movies (Okay, you're not going to land Spielberg or even Nolan or Singer, but what about Rodriguez? Besson? Even John McTiernan?!). Spend a decent amount of money on it. Get a writer who likes the original and knows what worked - why not even bring in the writers of the original? Bring in a leading man who looks like he can give the Predator a run for its - money - Diesel? Statham? Craig? Do something different with it. The original was in the jungle, the sequel in the city. Outer space? A historical epic? A Western? Reference and respect the original movies, assuming it's not a prequel.

But for God's sake, none of your Psycho/ Halloween/TCM shot for shot remakes ...

It's like remaking Alien or Aliens, theres just no point to it.

Actually a few months ago that was rumored to be in progress.

AVP 3 is still being considered according to a Fox production report in late 2008.
