Spoilers The pointy eared elephant in the room

What I don't get is why the rebooted series really love them.

Romulans deserve more love. They've never gotten enough.

Now, they've become the new Klingons, where they were everywhere in TNG and DS9.

Go back to TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT and count how often they appeared. They're a whole lot more front and center than in the past.

Just for reference (I didn't do any post processing, so I think this is missing Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness and the ordering/grouping/formatting is slightly different. But this is a nice way to get a rough comparison.

Romulans had 58 appearances in the period of 1966-2005 and have had 26 appearances since 2009. In the past decade, we aren't even to the half way point of how many appearances Romulans had in the first four decades of the franchise's existence. Really, the only difference is we now have a series where Romulans are an integral part of the show with Romulan characters in the main and supporting cast. Which is to be expected, since Picard is building off the destruction of Romulus as established in Trek XI.

So yeah, still not seeing how Romulans are everywhere and the shows are totally in love with them. But you keep doing you.
