The Photoshop Thread, Part III

Holy crap, is that Rhapsody you're running? :techman:
Yeah... I have three systems running it (PowerMac 8600, PowerBook G3 and IBM ThinkPad 760ED), I figure I should stay effective with it considering the questions people send me about it from my Rhapsody Resource Page (which I need to update in the next couple weeks  ).

So when you hear about some weird guy who is still using Rhapsody on a daily basis... odds are they are talking about me. :techman:

Hahaha! I've actually seen your site a few times. I used to have it in my sprawling Mac bookmarks folder in Camino/Safari/Opera, which I trimmed down hugely last year.

I have disc images of Rhapsody DR2/x86 and OpenStep 4.2/x86, which I downloaded years ago. Still haven't burnt the images or tried to install them. Mostly because I never seem to have any equipment on hand that would run an obscure OS well.

I'm currently down to a MacBook 2GHz/9400M, a Performa 6115CD, a PowerBook 3400c/180, an LC III, and my 512K Fat Mac. Chucked a 9600/200 a few months ago after its logic board went bonkers (I tried, trust me...). I also had a complete NeXT Cube system in my possession for a while; monochrome display, external CD drive, printer...

But yeah, I'm a Mac freak. So seeing somebody running Rhapsody made my day. :D
...and people say trekkies are geeks...
I only have ONE computer... so I guess I am geek-challenged... :( No wonder I can't do the cool stuff you guys create!

You mean something like this?

cmdr_shelby.jpg

I'm getting no picture. :(

works for me

Nope, still nothing, and I tried opening the page in IE and Firefox. Weird.
Try this - same image, but hosted on different webspace:

Thanks guys, those are great images. I can almost imagine the first two as the conclusion of a TOS season 4 cliffhanger. Kirk has been converted by the Borg, his old girlfriend Shelby now in the centre seat.
As Locutus delivers his ultimatum, Sulu glances nervously over his shoulder to Shelby, who with determination gives Mr. Spock the order to fire the deflector array...To Be Continued!

And in the next episode we see at least a few seconds of the conflict at Wolf 359.

My Photoshop-fu is weak, but I'd like to see Kirk as Locutus, plus Commander Shelby in original series command uniform.
You mean something like this?

Just wondering, who's body is that? I can't really believe Shatner has thighs like that.
It is Commander Harris of the Exeter... I thought I posted this image of her after her promotion a while back.

capt_harris.jpg

I ended up using a screen grab of Harris from the "The Tressaurian Intersection" to match the few screen grabs I had of Commander Shelby. The Enterprise insignia came from Angela Martine's uniform from "Balance of Terror" (as I figured you guys wouldn't want her having an Exeter insignia).

Great work, BTW. How did you do the lettering?
Those were early test models I did back in 2007 using a (painfully old) version of Strata Studio (ca. 1994) back when I was curious how all that 3D stuff was done... I cleaned up the original image quite a bit for this.

I generally don't use my own models for these types of things, so I tend to use shots that hide the registries if possible... like these examples using Robert Bonchune's Defiant.

I mean when you compare my models to those of really good artists, I'd go with their models every time!

Of course that image reminds me of my attempts to make insignias in Photoshop...

Nice pictures......thanks for posting!!!:)
I wished that during The Next Generation years that we saw insignias from the differant ships. Does anybody know why, they stop showing differant ships within the fleet?? Please advise??

The 24th century Starfleet apparently used the same insignia (which became a stick-on comm-badge) for all ships. There was an implication that this was done as early as the 2270s to honor the Enterprise crew.

There could still be space-shuttle type 'ship logos' though... we've certainly seen some good class development logos in various background materials. Have a look at two here.

I decided that I needed a change of desktop image on my PowerBook and I wanted to test out a few texture ideas I was playing with in Photoshop. Nothing too special (this was all applied to my two year old model of the Constellation), but then again it is supposed to stay out of the way in the background on my desktop.

I just flipped the background image from the one I'm using on my PowerMac... mainly because I still like those colors. :D

dangit . . . radial blur bugs my eyes out
same with the ubiquitous lens flare

nice job on that though :techman:

Crazy Ideas

1.) Why not take the people from Boston Legal and have them dressed up as Star Trek Characters?

2.) Why not take a picture of Captain Kirk from ST:TOS and put him in a USN Uniform?

3.) Why not take a picture of Captain Kirk from ST:TOS and put him in a ST:TWOK uniform?
