The Photoshop Thread, Part III

I've always liked seeing a number of starships together too. :techman:

^^ Yeah, that's something we didn't see enough in TOS (except in "The Ultimate Computer", and even then it was four times the same image).
DS9 had multiple ships and space battles in abundance, that's what I liked about that series.

Great work, BTW. How did you do the lettering?

Those were early test models I did back in 2007 using a (painfully old) version of Strata Studio (ca. 1994) back when I was curious how all that 3D stuff was done... I cleaned up the original image quite a bit for this.

I generally don't use my own models for these types of things, so I tend to use shots that hide the registries if possible... like these examples using Robert Bonchune's Defiant.

I mean when you compare my models to those of really good artists, I'd go with their models every time!

Of course that image reminds me of my attempts to make insignias in Photoshop...

Yeah, hiding the registries is a classic trick. I do it all the time!

Well, I wouldn't say that... your work is very good; photorealistic even.
I suggest you make them bigger (res : 1680x1050) and upload them in Imageshack; then you can post them as thumbnails here (and make everybody happy who wants to use them as desktop pictures ;))!

Again, excellent work, Shaw. I'd like to see more!

I have a copy of the larger version of the first Bonchune mod on my server (here)... it is 2024x768, which is the size I needed for using it on my desktop...

I'm not sure what I did with the original of the other one, but here is how it looked on my desktop at full size...

Part of the problem is that I did those four years ago.

I've done quite a few images for myself over the years... like this one I did for the Discovery's return to flight mission.

This is one I use a lot...

And this is one I made using Starship Polaris' Exeter model...

And one I use on my ThinkPad using another view of Bonchune's model...

Currently (on this system) I'm using this shot of my Constellation...

I've got tons of stuff... if I'm not actually working in Photoshop, I'm often playing in it (I have Photoshop running on my system 24/7 with dozens of images constantly open and being played with). It is just finding some of the older images on my systems that is the problem. :wtf:

kirkborg01.jpg

I love this one, but shouldn't this be in a Sovereign-Class viewscreen, from the Shatnerverse books? ("The Return", where the Defiant-Class variant, USS Monitor takes out the Borg homeworld & an injured Kirk escapes to a Borg junk-yard & meets Hugh?)

Why should it? The speculation above was what a Borg encounter in the original series would be like.

Ok, here's one for people to whip up...what would the Borg have looked like if they were originally TOS characters, done under the 60's design aesthetic and TOS series budget?

Holy crap, is that Rhapsody you're running? :techman:
Yeah... I have three systems running it (PowerMac 8600, PowerBook G3 and IBM ThinkPad 760ED), I figure I should stay effective with it considering the questions people send me about it from my Rhapsody Resource Page (which I need to update in the next couple weeks  ).

So when you hear about some weird guy who is still using Rhapsody on a daily basis... odds are they are talking about me. :techman:

Hahaha! I've actually seen your site a few times. I used to have it in my sprawling Mac bookmarks folder in Camino/Safari/Opera, which I trimmed down hugely last year.

I have disc images of Rhapsody DR2/x86 and OpenStep 4.2/x86, which I downloaded years ago. Still haven't burnt the images or tried to install them. Mostly because I never seem to have any equipment on hand that would run an obscure OS well.

I'm currently down to a MacBook 2GHz/9400M, a Performa 6115CD, a PowerBook 3400c/180, an LC III, and my 512K Fat Mac. Chucked a 9600/200 a few months ago after its logic board went bonkers (I tried, trust me...). I also had a complete NeXT Cube system in my possession for a while; monochrome display, external CD drive, printer...

But yeah, I'm a Mac freak. So seeing somebody running Rhapsody made my day. :D
