I saw this thread and realized I could use a little practice with Photoshop.

First, here is some old stuff...

I always wondered what Spock would have been like as captain of the Enterprise during TOS.

Captain Spock

Then I realized that in the TOS era Spock had a tendency to micromanage...

This was something I thought TMP was always missing...

Enterprise returns to Space Dock

You can find a larger version of the older Enterprise here. I also attempted to actually build the space dock around the original Enterprise using nothing but Photoshop. This was the result.

Today I was playing with uniforms some more. I gave Uhura a promotion...

Explored Black uniforms a little...

And considered what Lt. Kirk might have been like having to serve under Spock...

Too. Freaking. Cool!

:D

BTW - what do you other 'shoppers out there use as a "background removal" method in order to isolate something to work on? If I'm not in a hurry I tend to use the pen tool to make a path for copying/masking stuff, but if I can get away with it I use the eraser for speed.

:D

Thanks!

Yeah, some experiments turn out much better than others... you should see the stuff that I don't show.

This one was questionable... I was wondering how a Lt. Kirk might have looked while teaching at Starfleet Academy.

Layers... lots and lots of layers.

Generally I'll bring an image into Photoshop, and the first thing I do is make a duplicate of the original background layer. If I'm altering a uniform, I'll make a duplicate layer and then remove everything except the elements I need to make the new look of the uniform.

In the case of that first space dock image, I removed the TMP Enterprise and reconstructed the dock that was supposed to be behind it before dropping in the TOS Enterprise.

Sometimes it works great, while other times it is just okay.

Polygonal Lasso... it gives me the most control over what to remove and what to keep.

So far this threat is turning out to be awesome. Kudos too all you photo shoppers out there. I wish I had the skill. Keep 'em coming!
