For what it's worth I'm not overly slagging off Lloyd, it's not his fault, but just saying

I do love him in Jingle All The Way though, a film so bad it's good. Hate Hayden Christensen all you want, but he greatly improved in ROTS. In AOTC he got nothing to do except use bad pick up lines to get into Padme's pants, but in ROTS he finally got some decent material. I think the biggest issue is that he didn't have much time to get used to being in a SW movie. He should have been in TPM instead of Lloyd.

People seem to forget that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher's acting were pretty shaky too in ANH. Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness were the only ones great from the very start.

Ha, maybe in a future special edition Lucas will insert him into TPM. De-age him somehow so he looks 10 (a much more sophisticated version of the young Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen in X3)

I actually agree with you. My "wooden and whiny" comments pertain for the most part to AOTC. Though he also displayed some nagging problems with his performance in ROTS, he had markedly improved in the three years since Episode II wrapped production. Episode III required an angrier, much darker Anakin and Hayden was much better suited to play the pissed-off, scowling Anakin-turned-Vader than he was the whiny, lovestruck and more reserved Anakin in CLONES. Christensen isn't going to win any serious acting awards, but the guy did get better during the three years between CLONES and SITH so I do give him credit for that.

And during those three years, he starred in Shattered Glass, where I thought he actually did a pretty good job. Granted, the person he was portraying was depicted as often whiny (if I'm recalling correctly - I haven't seen it since 2003), so he had that aspect of his performance down without a problem.

Looking back at Life as a House, which I haven't seen, it looks like he did pick up a few "supporting" and "breakout performance" nominations. The SAG one, of course, is the only one that would likely be considered "serious."

That's absurd. "There was no father" is part of the story. Taking that out means throwing out a significant part of the story just because some people can't handle it.

Life as a House is a great movie, with superb performances by pretty much everyone, including HC.

Yes. This is just another example of the shallowness of typical so-called "criticism" of the film. It has nothing to do with the quality of the film. "If Lucas would just take out the plot element that I don't want to accept, the film would be so much better."

Nah, it wasn't too bad. To each their own, but I kinda liked it. It has a dodgy premise and some of the acting isn't too hot, but it's a decent popcorn flick.

The best one I've seen was Shattered Glass. An all-too-realistic and all-too-familiar turn to the dark side: the person caught in a lie who just keeps piling on more and more layers of bullshit and plays it out all the way to the bitter end.

I thought the same thing. Whenever Jackson's character hit or zapped/stunned Christensen I kept hoping he'd yell: "How you like THIS, mutha fucker?!? Cut MY damn hand off with a lightsaber, will ya? Kiss my black ass, punk!!!"

But it's an extremely idiotic plot element that doesn't even get mentioned again. Ever. Leaving it out wouldn't accomplish much quality wise, I agree. But it would mean one less cringe inducing moment to bare, and it would, of course, shorten the runtime.

The one scene that IMO never should have been cut out is the one when Qui Gon destroys Maul's probe droid and tells Anakin to hurry up. It sets up the first duel nicely, not to mention that it explains why those two are suddenly in such a hurry to get to the ship.

My point - cutting out shit like 'there was no father' would have made room for the good stuff that got taken out solely for the purpose of keeping the movie under 2hrs10mins.

I always liked the Anakin-Greedo street fight that was set after the podrace. I know Lucas cut it because it doesn't add anything to the story beyond showing that Anakin has a violent temper, but to me that was a reason to leave it in. Anakin snaps a little at Padme when they meet for the very first time, but the deleted street fight with the young Greedo does a better job of showing that Anakin is occasionally prone to outbursts of anger and violence.

But in the end it's just a gratuitous nod to the Greedo character that concludes with a line of dialogue that foreshadows his death at the hands of Han Solo 32 years later. I like it for geeky, wink-wink reasons, but I can see why Lucas and McCallum left it on the cutting room floor at the last minute.

Padme asks if he's a slave and he gets angry and says: "I'm a person and my name is Anakin!!" He was obviously quite perturbed at Padme for calling him a slave.
