The Phantom Menace 3D Release

Candlelight

Opens on Feb 9th here. Might go see it and drag my little girl along. Get her indoctrinated. :)

Not sure about the 3D. May see it in 2D. If I do it'll be the first 3D film I've seen (although I've helped make 20 hours of 3D programming so I know enough about it. I'll probably sit there thinking how good or bad the convergence is :D).

(Sorry, couldn't see a thread about this in the search engine)

Why introduce her to the worst of the movies? She won't want to watch another Star Wars movie again and if she does then in 2 years time she gets to see little Ani get burnt to a crisp.

I'm not a fan of 3D but what in the name of the force is the point of going to see this movie if not for the 3D?

The first and last half hour are ok, so I plan on having a nap in the middle.

And just found out the film isn't being released here in 2D so I don't have any other option.

I am totally going to try and take my nephew to this. I showed him A New Hope on Blu-Ray last year. I think he'll love this (him being 7 and all).

I actually quite enjoyed TPM, yes, I've said it, and thought the trailer for the 3D version looked great. So I'm going, using the excuse of bringing my 4 year-old daughter. And if she doesn't go, then f*ck it, I'll go anyway.

I am hoping to go with my friends to see this as I am a fan of this episode, even though I never saw it in theaters in 1999. 3D just makes it extra special.
And having read the new Darth Plagueis/Sidious novel, and all it revealed, I feel ready to be able to fully appreciate it even more than in the past.

wait, people are going to pay to see this crap again?

It's only crap from your certain point of view. Some of us actually like this episode. It was fun and wasn't too dark. It was a good kid's action flick that a whole family could go and see with their children. Nothing wrong with that.

As I said, that is your point of view. I do not wish to get into an argument with you. Please do not keep on about it.

I can't wait to see it. I am planning on taking my 5 year old son to see it. He loves Clone Wars so I think this will be up his alley.

I cant wait to see Phantom Menace again on the big screen! The best part is that unlike the first release I get to bring kids! I was childless in 99 and now I have three! My son is two years old, the same age I was when I saw Star Wars back in 77! Just like me he'll get his first Star Wars experience sitting on the old man's lap! This will be my oldest kid's first live action big screen SW experience. I took her to see Clone Wars when it came out but this is even better! I love the Phantom Menace and can't wait to take the whole family to see it in 3D!

Phantom Menace is a decent enough movie if you can divorce it from the originals. Don't think I like it enough to see it again, and I don't to the theater often anyway these days.

I am not an expert on Star Wars fandom, but I get the idea that while many in the older crowd that was introduced to Star Wars through Han and Luke and Chewie and Leia doesn't care for Episodes I - III, but a younger crowd that first saw Star Wars watching Young Obi-wan and Anakin & Padme really DID enjoy it. An even newer crowd first discovered Clone Wars on TV and then moved on to exploring the movies. Personally, I did get tired of more and more drawn out scenes in these three categories as we went from Episode I to Episode III:
1) Light saber fights;
2) Chase (or fight scenes) scenes with big creatures;
3) Battles between ships.

BUT I can't say that there weren't others who really enjoyed those more recent movies. I might not be the target audience for those scenes (after all, I bet there were many seven year old boys who hated the gooey love scenes!).

I suspect that a kid today would love Phantom Menace. A good place for them to step into the Star Wars Universe. I did enjoy the Phantom Menace, but not as much as any of IV-VI and I did get bored during the pod race. I only saw that movie once, so I am willing to give it another chance and this may be a good opportunity. And I'll try it in 3D if it is available around here.

The movie was OK, definitely good moments, but 3D usually disappoints and even if it didn't it would probably seem too different (and I'm still a bit bitter over The Clone Wars).
