The Perfect Jax?

dub

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Oh wow! I had no idea Famke Janssen from the X-Men films, and "The Perfect Mate" from TNG, was offered the role of Jadzia! She would have been much better. I liked Farrell as Dax, don't get me wrong. And I loved her as she grew with the show. And of course, Farrell is beautiful. But Janssen exudes sensuality as an actress, especially back then. And she's a better actress. Just my opinion. Love Farrell though! :)

I saw a makeup test somewhere, probably in the Companion, of Terry Farrell with the TNG Trill forehead ridges. She looked silly. The producers obviously agreed, and remembered Famke's spots from her episode and put those on Terry.

On another note, after seeing the X-Men movies, it is fun to see Famke Janssen portraying a telepath receiving guidance and education from Patrick Stewart. Deja vu.

That, but the other reason was Terry Farrell had an allergic reaction to the makeup appliance.

Also, Dub, I think that you were autocorrected to Jax instead of Dax.

Ooops! Can't blame autocorrect on that one. Just my brain. LOL!

I was wondering who Jax was. ;)

Loved Famke Janssen in trek. Would have been a fine Dax.

Jax is a character on the American soap opera General Hospital - a billionaire corporate raider currently off-canvas, and living in Australia. He was last played by Ingo Rademacher.

He does have one thing in common with Jadzia Dax: while some fans loved his character (and hers), I find both to be very unlikable.

Famke Janssen has an ancient beauty, like a Roman statue. I thought she was superbly cast in "The Perfect Mate." The make-up looks great on her - what an incredible find, she was! But I will never forget the visage of Terry Farrell in "Trials & Tribble-ations" in that mini-skirt, with her hair up and wearing those go-go boots ... have mercy! Even Famke Janssen couldn't have done much better.

I was all ready to rewrite Janssen into my "mental canon," then you remind me of TAT-A. I'm not sure that anyone wore the TOS era uniforms better than Farrell.

Janssen has a wide range as well. She was extremely brutal, vicious and violent in Goldeneye (?) almost overpowering Bond in a protracted physical fight. Couldn't get a more starker contrast than her character as a lady of refinement in that TNG episode.

Dax has certainly strong moments that rank with the best of them, but overall she's the more vanilla character of a very strong ensemble.

She got more tasty as the series went on. :) The difference is I think Janssen would have made her instantly gratifying and probably would have been written differently. Easy for me to speculate though. :P

EDIT: Since I goofed, I wonder if a mod could hook me up and change the subject to "The Perfect Dax?"

Jax works for me!
I like Zax for Ezri, too!

Hm, wouldn't have minded seeing her in a TOS-mini either!

Oh, dear. Famke would look fetching in a TOS uniform, there's little doubt. In my opinion, however ... the Terry face/body combination is the equation that works for "Jax." She's cute and limber! Of the regulars, Jadzia was really the only woman worth noticing on station, when Mrs. O'Brien wasn't around nagging Miles about his inadequacies and shortcomings - quite publically, I might add.

I don't know or care about looks, but Janssen is about five times the actor. I don't know if it that would have matter much though, anyway, since it was such a poorly conceive character from the word 'go.'

Agree 100% that acting > looks. I would argue Janssen has both, and her acting abilities enhance her attractiveness. One scene in one episode (TOS miniskirt) doesn't sell me on an entire character. Again, I enjoyed Farrell's performance, especially after she clearly became comfortable in the role (around the time Worf came on board). I don't think the concept for the character was bad. But I do think characters, especially in a series that starts with a blank canvas, evolve based very much on their acting abilities and chemistry with other characters. So I think the Dax we would have had with Janssen would have had a far different and probably more memorable arc than the Dax we got with Farrell. Easy for me to say, though. :)

But just to add -- Kira is still the best female character on DS9 or any other Trek series, hands-down. :)
