The Path to 2409

You know, I sat down and read the timeline for Star Trek Online and I find myself wondering if the Star Trek franchise would potentially use time line as a guide for a new series; especially since the recent Star Trek novels have been referencing it.

I seem to recall an interview for the game at some point there being some announcement that events taking place in Star Trek Online are being referenced as points of canon.

If thats the case, I find myself wondering if it might not be a good idea to either formulate something of a space odyssey of the path to 2409 or if it might be a good idea to lodge the next series after the events leading up to it.

It's noteworthy Data takes over the enterprise in 2387 according to that time line and shortly after the Enterprise F is released. That also wouldn't be a bad place in interject on the timeline although I'm not so sure how a 62-year old Brent Spiner would feel about reprising the role of Data for a new series.

Realistically there won't be a new series dealing in the "prime" universe ever again.

But why would a game be considered canon? The cartoon isn't even considered canon. To me it sounds like the game makers just trying to get people to buy the game because it's "canon". Honestly I don't care too much about canon as long as as the basic facts are there and it's a decent show that isn't completely rewriting history.

"Ever" is a long time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a TV series where we can't necessarily tell what universe it's in (and the producers don't bother to give an indication because too few viewers would care or even know it's an issue). Even the presence of Vulcan or Romulus wouldn't prove anything; it could be survivors of their respective catastrophies who started over on a new planet. In the case of Romulus, especially, stars don't just up and explode without any sort of warning at all. I would expect a large percentage of the population got off world in time.
