The Opening Credits Font For XI

Hated, hated, hated the font for Nemesis... what with the backwards letters and such. Total embarassment. As far as I'm concerned, they could do bubble letters for XI and it'd be better than that.

It'd be interesting if he used this, for shits 'n giggles:

I imagine that the title itself will be in the classic vein. I would not be surprised if there were no other opening credits other than "Paramount Pictures Presents", "A Bad Robot Production" and "A J.J. Abrams Film" (in a simple typeface... Arial or Veranda for instance). I bet the score will simply be a tease of the famous Courage theme at that point.

They'll jump right into the story after that.

Only if they have a title card and "Act I", "Act II", "Act III", and "Act IV" for each section of the movie. ;)

I believe that the font from the opening credits to ENT should be used for the opening of XI to establish continuity with with established canon and show that XI, as well as ENT, truly happened before TOS.

However I also believe the font for Nemesis would also make a good choice as I find it to be the most aesthetically pleasing.

"Star Trek" is a reboot. Relaunch. Revamp. Redo. Remix. Whatever you want to call it, but it will not fit exactly with established canon by the end of the film, not only visually in every way, but storywise.

Being a student of typography myself, the best Trek typefaces are as follows:

1. The Cage titles typeface.
2. Star Trek II titles typeface.
3. Star Trek 1970s book and comic logo design. (Example: http://collectibleshop.tripod.com/star-trek-6-a-gold-key.jpg )

And that's about it. TOS's typeface was pretty good, but disobeys a lot of the rules of type while trying to look standardized as if it's following the rules. (The 70s book and comic type KNOWS it's breaking the rules and makes no qualms about it.) TNG's typeface was a rip of an older one. TMP is alright, but it tried too hard. DS9's typeface was a good 'fix' on the problems of the TMP font.

Best idea, yet worst execution: Nemesis' title design. Cool effect, but a bit much.

Couldn't agree more about the NEM titles, the execution was awful.

As for DS9 ... I always thought they pinched the color and style from King's THE BACHMAN BOOKS trade paperback cover. Very close.

I saw that and immediately, for some reason, the words, "A Quinn Martin Production" popped into my mind.

There are two Trek typefaces that do it for me, the TOS one and the typeface from STMP.
I'd think it's really a simple decison in this case: the TOS typeface, perhaps subtley changed, for the main titles.
But then something else for the rest of the credits. Ever print an entire page of text in the TOS typeface? Unreadable.

I totally messed that poll up big time, lets try that again, I think I was half asleep when I did it.
