You should definitely reboot, Star Trek.
Definitely do something that makes it feel new while keeping true to what made it unique. A reboot where only the title is the same only goes so far and I'm itching to not cite some theoretical examples right now... but TNG managed to do that and later create a bunch of sequels from it. Some even defend the prequel stemming from it more than me, but by then the franchise burnout was setting in* and that's when a reboot becomes inevitable as the franchise is large enough that it won't be forgotten, unlike classic shows such as "Captain Nice" or "My Mother the Car". Amazed "Mr Ed" and "Small Wonder" haven't been rebooted, unless they were influences for a new show that had nothing to do with their universes. "Knight Rider" is stretching it, but it's one person and a talking car instead of one person with a talking horse... "My Secret Identity" was influenced by "Small Wonder" and "Out of this World" but clearly was different... "Firefly" came from "Blake's 7" and other influences, Blake's 7 came from Star Wars + Star Trek + The Dirty Dozen, et al... yet those shows based on diverged influence felt more like their own things than reboots.
* prequels are an interesting beastie worthy of their own discussion later
There's nothing wrong with ending up just like any other franchise.
Hmmm, wouldn't people get bored of eating nothing other than bananas every day? Bananas are always the same. Or if that food drives you bananas, where's all the fish or tofu or chocolate to replace it with? Oh wait, do those taste the same? The point is that the same thing all the time with zero differentiation or creativity is... well, it doesn't matter. That's why so many genres and shows exist - to be more entertaining and not "the same".
Don't listen to the haters!
Nothing "hater" about it. At least for some. It's surely a bit of a harsh word anyway?
