Ok guys, hear me out, we all want the show to be good so thfat's a given, but I have a technical request I REALLY want to happen with this new star trek series. I have ZERO power to make it happen, but perhaps someone here has some contacts with people in the know that can make the suggestion if it is not already being implemented.
I want the new star trek series on cbs all access to be processed to allow high dynamic range video on top of 4k. Netflix/amazon is flirting with both at one time or another. But the HDR aspect is something that would be PERFECT for a star trek show, especially with all those space scenes with the stars as a backdrop. This could make this the most visually stunning tv series of ALL TIME !!!!!
Why? Take a look at this sample on an lg oled vs a standard color range tv set:
Can a single soul in this entire board tell me they don't want to see the new star trek series released in a way that allows us to see the series in that kind of fidelity? Not all tvs will support hdr, most won't, but over time it will get more and more prevalent, and for the first time we can see space without washed out blacks, or dim colors.
Again, I have ZERO contacts with anyone on production, but I am told Many cameras already capture this kind of high dynamic range but are later converted in the post processing phase for standard definition/color tvs. All they would need to do is allow both to be released so that the people with better displays could get perfection.
So if ANY of you have such contacts, please, I beg of you, reach out to these people in the know and plead with them to release the new star trek in this format!
