The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Okay, I watched the season 13 premiere today. The Mads segments were underwhelming, the riffs were okay but not great. The movie was suitably dumb and incoherent, but there were some missed riff opportunities, like in the opening when they said Santo had dedicated "his entire life" to hiding his identity. Even as a child? Was he born in a mask? That one was just sitting there waiting to be mocked. It was also weird that they did a Twilight Zone riff on seeing Santo's tunnel-like time machine instead of the more appropriate and obvious 1960s sci-fi reference. I mean, Luisa even landed in the past in slow motion, just like Tony and Doug, except in lingerie.

Worth noting that the announcement also mentions they will be part of the writing team for that episode as well, so it's not just a cameo appearance.

I wonder if there is any chance that Trace will return to the Crow T. Robot role as well. I love Bill Corbett and I love his Crow, but Trace will always be the "real" Crow to me and I would love to see this new season include them both.

Continuing season 13: Robot Wars was a really bad movie with a deeply unlikeable "hero," but it had unexpectedly good stop-motion animation for a Charles Band B-movie. And man, Lisa Rinna was gorgeous before all the cosmetic surgeries.

I also watched Beyond Atlantis, Emily's first episode as host, and I like her, possibly better than Jonah. The movie was mediocre, dumb but not especially terrible, but the riffs were good. A female Crow took a bit of getting used to, but the alternate actors did okay. Although the concept of Crow, Servo, and GPC just being casually duplicated like that raises some existential questions. Although we have seen one or two alternate Crows and a ton of Servo duplicates before, come to think of it.

It didn't strike me at first, but I do see what was mentioned earlier about how cheap the sets look in season 13. The SoL lobby walls are just flats with painted details instead of the traditional kitbash, and Moon 1 is just a console, windows, and special-effects background.
