The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I'm watching part of "Soultaker" right now. Even without the legendary Joel-Mike crossover during the host segments this is one of the funniest episodes of the entire Sci-Fi Channel era and the final season of the show had some great moments.

Crow: "Man, I bet you can never get the smell of Hardee's out of that car."

Girls Town: (A great movie with a very nicely figured, curvy, Mae Mae Van Doren in it.

"What's that?"
"It's Holy Water, it's just like regular water with the hell burned out of it."
Mike: "And only half the calories!"

Two girls enter the dorm room, both of them stern-faced and one of them with a familiar haircut to some of us.

Mike: "Uh-oh, Romulans!"
Mamie van Doren: (looking at statue of St. Jude) "Who's that?"
Mike: "Some guy. Supposed to be good for you."

The most disturbing of all the Mads' Invention Exchanges has to be what Dr. Forrester did to poor Frank at the beginning of "Lassie: The Painted Hills" in Season 5. I've rarely laughed that much at any Invention Exchange on either side, but man, is it a dark one.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

This may be the greatest Rifftrax release in a long time, shortly to be probably topped by Miami Connection:

Julie and Jack an earlier film made by James "Birdemic" Nguyen and it's everything one could hope for, poor sound editing, poor set lighting, poor digital effects, poor acting and line reading as well as an M. Night Shyamalan-ian cameo by James Nguyen himself.

In the Sharknado 2 intro, Mike said they had a "very special" riff coming, in addition to the 200th riff coming out last week, and I'm betting this was it.

Guys, I'm excited! I need to run to the store to buy some blank DVDs to burn this, but I don't want to watch it until tonight after I've rested, gotten dinner and am ready to sit down to dive into this.

The sample alone made me hard!

Now there's a mental image to riff.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

So how is it that the guys have never riffed Barbarella before?? I caught some of the movie for the first time on TCM a couple weeks ago (complete with nudity, surprisingly), and it's one of the most crazy, bizarre, and ridiculous movies I've ever seen, and was absolutely crying out for a proper riffing.

They seriously need to get on that.

I'm betting that Jane and Ted might have something to do with that.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

There are more than a few movies that should have been riffed on MST3K or by Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic but they couldn't get their hands on a copy or the legal permission to do so.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Ah ok. I can understand the limitation when it comes to broadcasting on TV, but I assumed they were able to get around that now with the audio tracks and such.

But I guess not so much.

They do audio-only riffs very rarely now and mostly stick with crummy movies no one one has heard of, probably ones that are cheap to buy rights to for distribution and PD movies.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Yeah I've noticed that. But it's just as well I guess, since the only ones I really feel like watching nowadays are the shorts. I kinda got burnt out on watching entire movies with them a while ago.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

There were more than a few times the shorts were funnier than the movie in that very same episode. The shorts provided some of the biggest laughs of the entire series.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I still find these guys endlessly entertaining. Shorts, crummy movies, Blockbusters; they deliver tha laughs. Which somehow reminds me, how can we forget their Riff of a 1940s Batman serial? That was some epic stuff.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I have rarely laughed at any riff as much as I've laughed at "Progress Island U.S.A.," the Puerto Rico promotional film that helped introduce "The Beast of Yucca Flats." Pound for pound, that is one of the fastest, funniest riffs in the entire history of the series and is great stuff from start to finish.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I'd still count Mr. B Natural the best of the shorts. :D

"I didn't hate accidents enough."

"You know, staring off into space hasn't been as exciting as I thought it'd be."

"I've got GREAT sperm!!!"

"Oh no, the reverend has killed again!"

"I often stop here for coffee. When I do, I'm often reminded of the things that happened to the people who weren't even there."

Crow: Oh sure, that's... huh?
