The Office:Heavy Competition

That has to be the most competent and serious Michael has ever been on the show. Aside from Pam having to write him notes about Dwight talking about him Michael was actually smart and clever in this episode. It's always nice when that occasionally happens. For the first time it looks like his little company might actually work! ... It's too bad this storyline is completely ignoring the second tier characters who I find so much more funny than the main characters. Where's Angela, Stanley, Kevin, Creed, Kelly...

I thought of another odd thing about this episode. After several episodes of Jim being constantly hounded by Charles to not goof off... Jim spends this entire episode doing nothing and throwing a mock hissy fit in the middle of the office and Charles is nowhere to be found.

As I was watching it with my friend she commented something similar. You know Michael really is good as his job when he wants to be. I reminded her that Michael got his promotion to manager only because he was the best salesman in the office for years when the old manger retired(the guy who got beheaded in a truck accident in S2).

Loved the color coded clues.
"How is your gay son?"
"I color code things. Gay is in green, meaning 'go ahead and don't say it'. Son is in orange, meaning 'aren't you glad you didn't bring it up."

Jim did his fit in the coffee room/kitchen when he appeared to be on a break and then cried on Andy's shoulder outside the office by the lifts. The only time he messes with Andy in the office is when he goes over and briefly sits on his desk. Then with Andy at the end Charles is shown not to be in his office or the main office area or kitchen. The show gives the impression that Andy makes his speech when Dwight is driving to catch up with Michael, which is after lunch. We also see that Charles is there when Dwight runs out of the office. Then later he is gone. I put forward that in "real time" this isn't the case.

If you look at a possible timeline, Jim starts messing with Andy before lunch, during lunch does hissy and walks out, Andy follows and Jim cries on his shoulder by lift (still lunch time as Kelly returns from buying lunch outside office), Jim goes back in and Andy does speech. So from hissy fit to reveal to Andy could be in a span of 10 "real" minutes. Dwight isn't in the office because he is in Michael's office stealing and planting fish and Charles isn't there because he is out to lunch. So most of this prank takes place at lunch and Jim manages to avoid the wrath of Charles...maybe I spent a bit too long thinking about this.

Scene that made me laugh the most was the Dwight showing he didn't have a wire and drops his pants.

Loved the episode. and i loved how they touched back that yes Michael is a horrible manager but man can he sell.

Dwight was quite a bastard in this one and I thought Charles was actually quite decent with Michael all things considered.

Did you catch that it was "Orange you glad you didn't bring it up"?

I really loved Andy trying to sell his wedding package to Jim and Pam. They said the entire song by Al-Capella was on-line, but all I can find is the demo. I would really like to hear the full song!

This was a great episode, but I really do not like the overall direction this show is going. I hope that the "Charles" arc is almost over...I realize they want to shake things up, but bringing in an overbearing, hostile, outsider boss who has no idea how things work has too many shades of real life that I don't want to see on TV. I find myself angry and nervous whenever he's on-screen, and the show is becoming less entertaining every week as a result.

The Office is best remaining a quirky, fun show not trying to bring in doom and gloom of the economy. It was hilarious that the Scranton branch was doing the best and wanted Michael's advice a few months ago, then to put the screws to it just doesn't even make sense (of course that's another example of real-world happenings creeping in).

My only hope is that the Michael Scott Paper Company will take over Dunder-Mifflin at some point and bring the group back together...however, I wonder if people will still be watching by then or turned away?

I'm praying the season finale will see the departure of Charles and the reinstatement of Michael and Pam (but not Ryan!) to the office.

Just saw this. Enjoyed it too!

Not keen on Jim's antics. Sometimes, he can be a real dick.

I wasn't shown on-screen, but apparently the new boss ordered a dress code making the employees wear long-sleeved shirts.
