The next "Cadet" Pavel Chekov

Styleset

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Ok, this should not seem so far fetched. Given that we know the producers have said we will see Kirk and crew from TOS take over at the very end of the series, and that Ensign Pavel Chekov does not show up until season two of TOS, I propose we will see a (perhaps 3rd year) Cadet Pavel Chekov visiting the USS Enterprise at that time. Here is my casting proposal:

Russian born Mark Eydelshteyn. Born in 2002, he is 23 and could pass for 20. What do you all think?

While I am okay with the various TOS characters they have brought onto the show, having Chekov serving on the Enterprise at this stage might be pushing it. It's basically the same as what the show's already doing with Uhura, spending the next thirty years on the same ship* they did their Cadet cruise on. Maybe someone can actually wait until TOS before they get assigned to the Enterprise?

*Yes, I know, the Enterprise A is a different ship, but basically the same for purposes of this conversation. And I guess, in Chekov's case he doesn't spend all of those thirty years on the Enterprise, given there was his time on the Reliant.

^On the other hand, thanks to TWOK, Chekov is the one character we already knew was somewhere on the ship before the earliest episode he was in.

Granted, though in my head canon I've always assumed he was assigned at some point between Mudd's Women in Space Seed, based on the fact Chekov didn't know who Harry Mudd was in I, Mudd.

Regardless, I don't think he needs to end up on the Enterprise before Kirk takes command, though if the show wanted to have him show up somewhere else, I'd be fine with that. Like if he were to do his Cadet Cruise on the Farragut. Granted, that's still small universe syndrome, having him serve under the officer who will become his Captain for most of the next thirty years, but more tolerable than if he were to end up on the Enterprise at this stage.

He could be rescued (but Scott already was, IIRC), or if SNW wants to crossover with SA (or at least do an episode that takes place at the 23rd century iteration of the Academy) instead of on a hero ship.

I remember when they sold this show as the adventures of Pike, Spock, and Number 1. It hasn't really felt that way since the first season.

I realize this increasingly seems to become an outlier opinion, but personally I would still prefer to keep the character of Chekov as retired, out of reverence for Anton Yelchin.

I am curious do you feel this way about Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Una and Chapel?

No, because the deaths of their respective actors and actresses weren’t as untimely and didn’t hurt as much. I admit I might be a bit unreasonable about this, though. :)
My curiosity is sated, thank you. We all have things that we react more strongly to than we probably should.

I'd prefer if the show doesn't bother with Chekov. He doesn't enter the scene until season 2 of TOS anyways, and he'd be too young to be a believable cameo in any other sense than to check a fan service box.

It'd be a recton, but I'm waiting for Chekov to be revealed as one of the cadets Pike saves during his accident.

I get what you mean, but I think that should not apply to EVERY reboot of Chekov out there. It should only apply to the Abrams produced movies that should've had Anton play Chekov. To recast THAT Chekov would feel disrespectful. To cast a young pre TOS-ish Chekov set in the "prime universe" isn't disrespectful one bit. Its not the same universe already established under Abrams.
