The New USS Discovery....

Those are not the same class of sub. The Los Angeles class is not a Seawolf class. Although the Seawolf class did replace the Los Angeles class. Unless you know of a current Replacement for SNN -688 Los Angeles decommission in 2011 that is a Seawolf class.

You are correct. What I meant to say was:

Seawolf-class submarines length: 108 meters
Seawolf-class USS Jimmy Carter length: 138 meters
difference: 30 meters

And USS Jimmy Carter is certainly a Seawolf-class submarine.

Ah there was the confusion. Yeah she is a Seawolf, but wasn't that one a one off build? Humm a very interesting read, I also did not know Carter was a Submariner. Fitting name then. Yeah this is more inline, they more or less rebuilt the thing. I could see something like this being done for a single ship, heck maybe two as missions called for them really. A bit far afield, but the Lakota from DS9 really should have been rebuilt into something like this, damn that budget.

One thing I love about such debates is just the little oddball things people dig up. You both have made some good points, I don't really agree it would be done like this one a full class as the setting say happened, much less an assumed part of a standard refit fans seems to think happens all the time.

To be fair, his is based off of IrishTrekkie's sketches, which are based off my kitbash of the Shenzhou's nacelles on OG Discovery.
To be fair, we developed ours independently :-) Damien and I have been working siloed and sharing after, I used the same orthographic drawings that I have since last year, and then the nacells are based off of the Mawson/Shenzouh.

It's interesting how you guys seem to have gotten so close to the final look. Where did the sphere in the middle come from? Really hope it's in the final design.

...The one that sucks like no other?

I'm sorry to see the interesting forward ends of the nacelles gone. The saucer deserves whatever variety it can get, including spheres or see-through parts, but I hope the set designers can make appropriate use of that.

I don't really have a sphere, just the bridge dome that we see in the SDCC trailer (and like every other Starfleet ship) I used the same design I have since July of last year....

and punched holes in the saucer where it looks like they are in the poster....

...and married Shenzhou style nacelles onto the existing secondary hull and viola....

Damien pulled out the bridge dome and made it more of a ball, which I didn't. I only have gaps creating an outer ring.

So there you go! That's how I got where I am today. I don't know exactly the prices Damien has gone through, but I'm sure he'd be happy to walk you through it. @Theirishtrekkie on Twitter.

To be fair, fair enough ;)

I did put this in TrekYards on a lark...but with some alteration this might work. I think the inner ring would probably stay. I was inspired while vacuuming ;-)

Personally, I think the entire inner section would come out.
If the bridge was more of a sphere shape as in Irish Trekkie's design I could imagine that being like a second separation from the saucer itself. Like a large life pod.
