I'm telling ya, season 28. :p

I do plan to vote and predict the best season before it transpires but after I'm into first season at least.

Boring.

Shouldn't we be voting on best spinoff film already?

The days of Star Trek getting endless second chances are done. In this market, it had better impress from day one or it's boned.

I don't get why people say this. It's probably something that just carries over from generation to generation.

If this show gets cancelled after one season, then Netflix will pick it up. If they cancel it after a second season, then Amazon Prime will pick it up. If it gets cancelled after a third season, then it's probably REALLY bad and deserves to be cancelled, but if not, then Hulu will probably pick it up. And so on, and so on...

The days of Star Trek getting endless second chances are still going strong.

You could make that argument , yeah. Study the history of TV from, say, 1951 to the present, and all will become clear.

Brett is right, regardless.

The Neverending Wrath of Khan was a bit derivative but personally I loved it. Captain N'ug'zav''lk texting "KHHHHAAAAANNNN" was such a valentine to the fans.

Does the fact that multiple streaming services were willing to pay big bucks for this new series not mean anything?

This Trek series will get more than enough chances, especially with it being the flagship show of CBS All-Access and the first and only show made exclusively for All-Access.

None of the shows that were canceled but then picked up and continued by Netflix were expensive sci-fi shows, though.

If ST17 gets canceled for poor ratings, that's probably the end.

It will get more of a chance than any new show because of the brand and because of the built in following. And because as was with Voyager and UPN, CBS is using Trek to promote their streaming service as its sort of flagship. So for all of those reasons it will get a bit more of a pass but those that are saying that it better impress from the get go are correct. It has to wow and amaze from day one to GAIN an audience or to keep one.

We have all been let down after the glory days that were the 80's and 90's of Trek where it was everywhere at once, until it was no where at all. We were let down by the end of Voyager, the beginning of Enterprise and the final TNG films. And then after a promising new start we were handed the dribble that was Into Darkness. So I would say there is more riding on the continuation of the franchise for the fans who feel disenfranchised by the crap launched at us with the Star Trek name attached to it with the expectation that we should be thrilled.

If Star Trek: Beyond is bad and so far sensor readings would appear to indicate that as the most logical outcome then this new series better do its job for the fanbase.

If Falling Skies can somehow get FIVE SEASONS, surely ST2017 will run forever.

I think the third spinoff movie will be awesome, the high point of all Star Trek, but hardly anyone will watch it due to the previous one doing so badly (Ocean's 11 in the Mirror Universe? Really??).
