Do you think ST17 will take a couple years to find its footing? That seems to have been par for the course with Berman-era Trek. But are today's audiences more demanding? If the first season is dull and meandering, will the show be canceled right away, or will it go on simply on the strength of the Trek brand?

Or will the show be compelling and thrilling from the get-go? What has the trend been in this regard for action shows in recent years?

Will the series last for an entire seven-season run on the CBS streaming service, or will it move to broadcast TV at some point? Will it be canceled after a few seasons like ENT? Or did TPTB learn a lesson from that fiasco and plan out a stronger show right from the beginning?

Which season do you think will be the best?

I know virtually nothing about the new show and yet I'm being asked what my favourite season is. You gotta love Trekkers.

The days of shows being crap for a while before getting good are probably over. It will need to hit the ground running.

Not enough data, but... If it were in the prime universe filling in a gap, it might take 3 seasons. A completely new universe might not have that grace period. Or maybe it has to success in the modern era by mid season, regardless of content?

I think you could make this point regarding just about all of the threads going on in this forum right now. ;)

Why don't we wait and see if the new show even goes ONE season before we discuss this?

And now another moment with Headlines From The Future:

New Star Trek Series Is A <snap, fizzle, pop>

We are experiencing technical difficulty's with our connection to the future. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please stand by...

These days, shows tend to be best at the beginning then tail off. The new show won't have the luxury of two mediocre years like TNG or DS9. Or 7, like Voyager.

That was my thought as well, on all counts.

A different generation is in charge of Trek now, and they probably would put a bad show out of its misery instead of letting it drag out for seven whole seasons. Even ENT wasn't allowed the customary seven-season run of modern Trek shows.

Why don't we wait and see if the new show even goes ONE season before we discuss this?

You could ask the same thing about many of the other threads going on in this forum right now, too. ;)

I'm going with the possibility that the first season will be good, but the second season will be stellar. Season one will undoubtedly be a great action-adventure, and season two will then have an established foundation to build upon with some darker, deeper and more complex themes. So for me it's Season 2 for the win. :techman:

Season 1 was great from the start - the pilot was the best episode of the bunch, IMHO. Season 2 kind of lacked the same vital focus the first season had, and Season 3 highlighted that the show was starting to lose its' touch. Season 4 was kind of painful, and felt like a zombie of a show, just going through the motions to hang on to subs. At least the finale was satisfying, which props up the quality of Season 4 a little.

I believe season 9 got a golden globe for best writing, and the cast received Nobel Peace Prizes for sharing joy with the world, and it cured poverty, and it opened a wormhole to heaven, and it traveled back in time to before the formation of the universe, where it was such a hit with the pre-universians, it caused the big bang.

I could be wrong though.

I liked season 4 a lot, it seemed that the cast finally understood the relationships between them, the ships, the cities and the artificial intelligence that rules over the federation-empire. Although season 3 had its fine moments too, when the Crew found out, that it spend the last 3 years in a holodeck and did not really live through those events. It was essentially a reboot, but it gave the producers a chance to correct some mistakes. Lightsabers instead of Phasers? Really? Also Worfs sudden gender-change. I know, transsexuality is a hot topic in the celeb-news today, but I never sensed, that Worf was unhappy with him being a male Klingon. And Troi did definitively do a better Job as counselor! The end-thirteen-parter was pretty much the best the show ever produced. But did that Vorta really have to come back 9 times after he had been killed? I know, the Sisko was involved here, but I found that a bit over the top.

I watched the first season and loved it. Then I found out that it was in a whole separate universe--not what I was led to believe--and that DeForest Kelley would never make a guest appearance. So that's it for me. I hate the show now.

For some reason I have always liked the fifth season of each of the shows, even TOS and Enterprise.

So I'll go with the fifth season.

It was a mess from the start. The captain was awful, the first officer was an idiot, the doctor was a quack, I could go on forever. I can't believe it lasted 20 seasons. The only good episode was the one where the Enterprise-F destroyed the JJVerse with a single torpedo and the flick of a middle finger.

If Amazon and Netflix original content are applicable indicators, we will probably be blown away by the first season. Quality television, broadcast and streaming, is at an all time high.

Although a case certainly could be made that if the show doesn't find its feet by season two it'll get the ax, I'm going with season three. That's not saying two will be bad, but season three is a make or break in terms of reselling a show for reruns and a lot of focus will be on the question - will there be a season four. The answer to that question (IMHO) will rely on season three's strength.

Wow...it's really too early to make any kind of prediction.
