The New Mutants -- news, rumors, opix, etc;

At one point, the movie was going to be set in the 80s and feature Storm and Professor X, which confirms rumors about James McAvoy and Alexandra Shipp posted earlier in this thread. Turns out it was changed because the studio didn't want any more X-Men movies set in the 80s due to the failure of Apocalypse, even though the time setting was hardly the issue with Apocalypse.

Also, Josh Boone seems to confirm that the movie still takes place in the X-Men Cinematic Universe as he infers that there is a reference to Professor X.

According to Cinema Blend, Walock was in the early stages intended to be in the film but creating him would've doubled the budget. Considering the extended the limbo found itself in, it's a good thing didn't try to include hi.

Since this film has about as much to do with the actual New Mutants comics/characters as it does with, say, Batman, I'm fine with Warlock not being there. One less character to be featured in a crappy X-Men film. I'd definitely like to see him, even in a cameo, in a future MCU X-Film because I think it would be cool to see him done well visually in a movie.

Other than the setting being an asylum rather than the hospital in the comics, it's closer to the original story and characters than you seem to believe. Warlock wasn't in that story, and I would question putting him in this version, as it makes it a different story.

Since I haven't actually read any of the comics for these characters, I don't have a dog in this race. However, everything I've seen in the trailers and heard and read from the actors and the director paints a potentially fascinating and scary film. The more I see and read about it, the more excited about it I am, which is why I'm invested in seeing it on the big screen if it's possible.

I hope it gets a theatrical and video on demand release like Bill & Ted 3 is getting.

I just saw a couple days ago that this is supposed to be coming out on the 28th, I can't really see that happening at this point, at least not in the US.

There won't be any movies in theaters this year. I've resigned myself to that fact. Just taking the time to watch all the TV shows I've left hanging and show my wife some childhood favorites or watch mediocre VOD horror movies.

I think they said last week that the release date is pending again. They also said that it was based on a specific comic story, but I've never read the New Mutants and I can't seem to find that info online right now.

It's at least inspired by elements of the Demon Bear Saga, but it doesn't seem to be directly adapting any specific story.

Okay, thank you. I am actually interested enough in this movie now that it has been delayed so often that I am going to read about the source material.

New Mutants is one of my favorite comics of all time, so I'd definitely recommend it.

I don't know if it's still the case but years ago I bought the whole series and Rom for 50c each in good shape. At least the pre-Liefeld issues which were the good ones anyway despite being cheaper. At the time I think the dealer was just happy to unload them on me.

The only issue that's impossible to get is the first appearance of Deadpool. Otherwise, it's fairly cheap overall. If you did buy that issue with Deadpool and still have it, you could probably make some decent money out of it.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't just get the bare minimum theatrical release required contractually and then pops up as another PVOD release on Disney Plus immediately afterwards.

I think I read that, in the US at least, it has to go to HBO/HBO Max first after the theatrical release, because of some deal FOX made with them over the X-Men movies (although that might just be conjecture from people online). We'll probably see it on physical media long before we see it on Disney+, at least in the US..

Yeah, that's why they haven't already just put it on Hulu or Disney+. Warner has the TV and streaming rights for it, so if it would have to go the HBOMax if it was going streaming, and Disney doesn't want it to go on a competitor's service.
