the new MONOPOLY token is...

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
.. a cat?

So they got rid of the iron for the cat?

Well I thought one of the things that made the tokens in the game unique is that they were all so radically different from one another, so as to easily tell them apart, while giving an unusual cross-section of our culture. But a dog and a cat are too similar. Next they'll use a horse?

ARGH

I'm bummed about the death of the iron. I always used the iron.

Of course, I don't plan on buying a new Monopoly game any time soon, so I think I'll be okay. Anybody I want to play with probably already owns the game.

Speaking of the horse, my go-to token has always been the horseman. Apparently, it wasn't an original token, and has since been removed from the game. Luckily, I have a Monopoly set that happens to include it.

But yeah, I don't plan on buying a new Monopoly board anytime soon, so I'm not worried about the cat.

Yeah, the cat really seems uninspired somehow. But wasn't the new piece decided by a public vote? I guess if the masses want it, I can't be that upset.

I'm more of a Trivial Pursuit guy, but Monopoly is a close second. I have several of the themed versions though, so if the original version changes, I won't lose sleep over it.

I tend to be kind of a classicist when it comes to these things. It's like with the original Star Wars trilogy. You can update it and change it all you want, but I still think the original version should be available to people who want it.

I understand that that's a silly business model, though, so I'm not heartbroken.

The household tool joins a historic group of Monopoly rejects, along with a lantern, purse, rocking horse, and horse and rider.

WHAT?! I loved the iron! It was always the one I used. Though I love cats, so I could see myself using that too, but I appreciated the inanimate nature of the iron.

Of course, I can't stand playing Monopoly, so this issue isn't likely to come up much in my life.

This was almost exactly my train of thought.

I think we need to sit down and have a talk with the internet about its obsession with cats. An intervention or something.

There will be a billion Monopoly Iron tokens on eBay by Tuesday.

Apparently some long-time Monopoly fans are already complaining about lens flares on the cats.

I know there was actually an official version of this, but some years ago my sister and I made a Star Trek monopoly. We've still got it, actually. The one thing we couldn't make was the tokens...
