Because TNG didnt go with John M Ford's fantastic, realistic, rational Klingons. Instead we got a bunch of head butting samuri - biker- vikings who are ALL warriors and growl about their personal honor every five minutes
As one dimensional and monolithic as you can get. Its a wonder they manage to clothe themselves in the morning let alone run an empire!!

Since I have no interest in Klingons period, and prefer the TOS era ones, I don't need to read a book to know one author's interpretation of how they "should be."

Ford's take is interesting. But it's very very different to TNG. If it were introduced into Star Trek there would have to have been some sort of cultural revolution for a period.

Given the way TOS, and Star Trek 6, present Klingons as differently than TNG, I would an expect a cultural revolution of some kind. ENT alludes to that as well.

Since I have no interest in Klingons period, and prefer the TOS era ones, I don't need to read a book to know one author's interpretation of how they "should be."

Yeah I too prefer the TOS Klingons and suggest that Ford's more closely resemble them, than the sea change ones seen in TNG (semi begun in ST3SfS) onwards. Ford doesn't explain how they should be, he uses TOS Klingons as a springboard to expand upon and develop his version, while hitting all the pointers shown in the series.
But again, I was just responding to a query as to why Klingons were so monolithic and single note. TNG are all warrior, snarl, honour and fighting for no real purpose than to fight. In my honest opinion they come over as juvenilles throwing a permanent temper tantrum!
While Ford's are a fully realised society and culture AND true to the TOS Klingons.
Quite apart from The Final Reflection being the only ST book that stands on its own despite ST, and also the best ST book I have ever read (and I have read quite a good number).

Probably wise given that's the only way to truly judge a production, rather than the snippets released, out of context of the overall story.
