Whilst I'm fine with them making the Klingons to look more alien, and I really don't need an explanation for it as such (like I didn't need one for the ridges), I really think that making them all completely hairless is unfortunate. (That is an opinion expressed in this thread many times by many different people, so clearly I'm not alone in this.) It just robs them certain feral character that I feel is essential to the Klingons. With the gothic armours they look like nosferatuish space vampires; so like Remans, really.

Now, if these are some strange sect or subgroup and most Klingons still have hair (and hopefully less desperately edgy uniforms) that's completely different then of course.

This is not a deal breaker or anything, but Klingons are my favourite Trek aliens, so I can't really say I'm indifferent about this either.

I think why the new Klingons are bald, is that they are following a ritual. They shave their hair off and put it in the coffen of a dead Klingon. They're telling the dead Klingon, that they will be coming to Stovokor soon.

I was watching the trailer again and in this scene...

Are the two (helmsman?) Klingons wearing some kind of mask?

You are right, they are wearing helmets. Hadn't noticed that before. Good catch! Could be one of the ones we saw in the behinds-the-scenes trailer a while back. Although those seemed to have light in them.

Actually, looking at the first picture more closely, you can see that the Klingons in the back are wearing helmets, too. And they actually do have lights inside.

Yup; they definitely are and it chimes in with the concept drawings we saw of the sarcophagus ship from last year. See 08:39 in my video:

Y'know, looking at the header pic to the video above, the new Klingons look like slightly more bumpy-headed versions of Drazi from Babylon Five. The crest on the head seems smaller compared to what we've seen in the later movies and TNG/DS9. Feels closer to the TMP Klingon design.

I keep getting an odd Jem Hadar vibe from the new klingons. Don't know how I feel about them but I find an explanation likely.

The helmets are a good idea. Organics are still the bane of CG action scenes (Wonder Woman being the latest example). They also help save makeup time for background characters in talking head scenes.

It seems to me that the Klingon designs are very Fuller-y, as opposed to the Starfleet uniforms that look nothing like what I'd have expected from him. I doubt this was what we'd have had if he stayed. They're simultaneously loud and boring.

lol I more or less agree but it's funny you have those uniforms you hate on your avatar...

I know and look how unimpressed Vulcan Homer is. :D Actually I made that back before we saw the whole thing. I figured they'd have different colors or that it was an Admiral's uniform, or they'd at least have the black pants and boots like TOS/Kelvin. None of it matters though, as long as the show is good.
