When I first saw TMP, I thought that the Klingons had been involved in an atomic war or something--mutations explaining the appearance change. If I could retcon things, I'd have the Klingons in Discovery post Star Trek: Nemesis with their new look as a final mutational state, Klingons being a bit like Vidians now.

I loved the Into Darkness Klingon costumes and helmets, and the lead Klingon's blue eyes too! Then he unmasked and I was a bit... ehhh... it's fine, they evolved the look a little bit (pointy wispy ears!) and made it a bit more realistic but I kinda wished they'd gone a step or two further.
Discovery's Klingons are that step or two further - but! - I don't much care for the costumes. They're impractical (although they do appear ceremonial in nature rather than day-to-day wear) and make them look a bit sea-monster-ish. And yes, I see a little bit of Xindi in there.
So... they're fine. Curious if they'll be brutish monsters or a little more thoughtful. I liked the "Heart of Glory" roar during the funeral, that was a nice callback.

Maybe the armor looks more bulky and restrictive than it actually is, its hard to tell.

This one's in case they have the sniffles in the middle of their warrioring.

Indeed, especially looking at the pictures of T'Kuvma or whatever his name is, they seem to have widened the nose prosthetic to create two additional nostrils. Interesting.

It does kinda fit with them. Look at the faces, that is heavy bone plating, larger holes would mean more air, which is damned useful and the middles section that makes it look like two would be bone or heavy cartilage protection. I can see the klingon lore in here, I mean they evolved from heavily plated predators IIRC
They don't look like what the audience they might be trying to appeal to is expecting. If you are hoping to get some reflected glory by referencing TOS ... I mean does anyone think these new Klingons look like more familiar Klingons? They're bald, lol. Ugly bastards.

Interesting. Canonically, they do have numerous redundant internal organs. It would appear this particular species of Klingons have multiple nasal passages. Probably evolved for easier breathing in thin atmosphere environments.
At least you called him Captain.

This was going to be my point. Klingons supposedly have a very redundant organ structure, design to provide backups in case of injury.
I have a new theory off the top of my head-maybe these Klingons are tired of the genetic engineering from the Augment virus, and consider themselves "pure bloods" but still retain some modifications. Just reckless speculation on my part.
