The "new" Enterprise

Has anybody figured out just how big this ship is, given you can park several of those jumbo shuttles inside as well as a modern brewery? It could hold thousands.

I had deliberately stayed spoiler free, so I was actually expecting her to look less like the Grand Old Lady. I was delightfully surprised to see that she's still clearly recogniseable, with enough of her characteristics to please this TOS fan. Even the layout of the bridge was familiar. I had been prepared for a complete rethink, and was pleased that there was so much retained - from the shape of the ship down to the little earpiece in Uhura's ear.

2 numbers have been given publicly.

2500 feet and 3000 feet long.

Big.

Yeah, the designers at ILM gave the 3000 ft. (914 meters) and the Star Trek Alternate Reality website gives the 2500 ft. (762 meters) one. Either way, it seems the designers behind Star Trek intended to make the ships larger for one reason or another.

As others have mentioned, the internal components of the engineering bay looked large, as does the Shuttle hanger which seemed to store shuttles on two levels sitting on opposite sides of the bay walls facing eachother. In reality, the size of the ship within the movie is inconsequential as it has no effect on the plot, outside of maybe showing that the Narada is one hell of a lot bigger (5km vs. 914/762 meters according to ILM designers) than the Enterprise/Kelvin.

The only question that comes to mind when I think of the size of the Constitution class in the J.J.-verse, is how big would the Galaxy class be? With the Constitution already at 914 meters (bigger than the Galaxy by almost 1000 ft.), one would have to assume the Galaxy class in the J.J.-verse would be massive, like 1824 meters (or 1.8km) massive. Thats just crazy going by previous Star Trek standards, although if the Narada is from the 24th Century and is around 5km in length and who knows what the tonnage would be, then a 1.8km Galaxy class wouldn't be all that unreasonabe.

I didn't like the new Enterprise inside or out. The engine room looked like the inside of refinery and not something you would see on a space going vessel. However, I did like the bridge. That looked fantastic.

I loved this ship... sleek lines, nice curves. HUGH Naceles.... but did it look like:

when they pulled back from the bridge; that the bridge was on the bottom of the ship...

I think the ship was just upside down in relation to the camera.

I remember the upside down bit... but when they pulled back I could swear that was the bottom of the ship that you saw...

yeah, but the bridge was too far forward! it wasnt in the dome! But i think the length of the ship is just stupid. way to ruin the enterprise. i love the design and everything, but a length closer to the original, maybe a bit bigger is what i am sticking to!

If you engineering looks odd in relation to the neat, clean and tidy living areas, you should go behind the scenes at DisneyWorld. Or Google it. My God! What a difference there is between what is seen and how what we see is being supplied. Or take a look inside our own human bodies. Pretty neat looking outside. Then you open us up and what a friggin mess. Complex machines require complex mechanisms.

to me it looked like a more complex version of what NX-01 looked like....
I believed it could be the engineering area, which certainly woundn't be as
spiffy as the medical bay area would be.

I thought engineering was out of place, like they went out of their way to give it that classic industrial look.

And then on the complete other end of the spectrum, the bridge was too bright and sterile looking, like the inside of a hospital or something.

I would have liked to see something more like an evolved version of the NX-01.

People are going to kill me, but I think the NuEnterprise is better than TOS Enterprise. For me, it is my favorite right now.
