The "new" Enterprise

Hi, I've looked but cannot find anything about peoples thoughts on the new ship.

For me the ship is the main chaaracter in Star Trek (I think Harve Bennet said something similar). I just cannot take to this new look Enterprise.

The Nacelles are stupid.

Engineering is stupid, what is with the whole "retro-industrial look", and what exactly do the miles of water tubes do, other than add to the quite humourous scene where Scotty gets beamed into one?

The bridge isn't great, too brightly lit, as are the corridors.

The transporter doesn't look very functional with those "domed pads".

I'd be interested to hear others point's of view.

The nuEnterprise is stunning. Gorgeous, inside and out.

IMO anyway.

Would you not have some sort of water pipes to keep things cool or freash drinking water supply it could have been the water for the swimming pool .

I loved the new Enterprise.

When we first saw it months ago I wasn't sure at first. But the more I saw of it the more I liked it.

And it all works better in motion and action. The nacelles, the whole exterior look, the bridge. Very very good.

And the engineering. As I said elsewhere, it was the only WTF I had about it when I saw the first few pictures. But it looks better in the movie and though it can use some...improvement it wasn't as bad as I initially thought.

To sum up, this is the Enterprise. And it's a ship worthy of the name.

The exterior is essentialy the Refit Enterprise, which is probably my favourite design. Yes, the nacelles were different but I think they looked nice, perhaps even better than the original.

Regarding the interior, I thought it looked okay, better than both the standard and the refit version however...... I do agree that those huge rooms with pipes and tubes seemed ouf ot place...

the first pictures of it before the film did have me worried but in the film i thought it all worked beauifully, i liked the whole look of it. It was epic and also the retro aspect seems to be a kind of homage to the 60's when TOS was made which was a nice touch i thought. And i must admit the same pictures seem to have come to life for me now and i'm quite in awe of this new universe of Trek.

Bite thy tongue! In no way does the new Enterprise come close to the amazing design of the TMP Enterprise. At least Andrew Probert knows a little something about proportions.

Now that I've seen the movie I like the new ship. I mean, I always did kinda like it, though the curved nacelle strutts used to bother me, but up on the big screen, in motion it's beautiful.

The only minor nitpick I had -

The only thing that bugged me a little watching the movie, and maybe I missed something but, when they come out of warp near Vulcan and there is all that debris floating around, they have their shields up, right? So why is it the top of of one of the nacelles gets scraped by a large piece of debris and tiles fly off of it?

I love the exterior of the nuEnterprise, it's absolutely terrific, and the resemblance with the Refit Enterprise is a good choice, as that was definitley a gorgeous ship.

As for the interiors... well, I must say probably one of the biggest disappointment was engineering. It simply didn't fit at all. Loved the bridge, loved the corridors, loved the Transporter Room and what not, but that Engineering room was absolutely out of place.

It's funny how closely the saucer resembles the refit Enterprise. Even the windows are exact-- rectangle, circle, rectangle, four circles, rectangle, circle, rectangle, with two circles below.

You expected a saucer the size of the Enterprise to bounce off the shields instead?

Well the shields are, supposedly incompressible, so theoretically either the debris should move or the ship should move.

No biggie though, it's no dealbreaker..

I thought the engineering "room" would bother me but it didn't. I think I still will prefer a new design in the nest movie. Doubt that will happen though. Otherwise, I thought the ship look great in every scene!

Because it doesn't look like the other work- and living-areas on the ship?
Did the Titanic's engine-room feel out of place? Does the engine-room of any modern see-faring vessel feel out of place with the crew- and/or passenger-areas?

The problem with Engineering isn't the aesthetic, it's the fact that the room appears to be fifty metres wide and entirely uncompartmentalised. One gets the distinct impression that the Enterprise is a TARDIS, also that a single hull breach will vent the entire secondary hull to space.

It looked out of place because it did not look the least bit futuristic. To me it really took me out of the scene. Compare an engine room from two hundred years ago to today, even a hundred years ago, and you can see the HUGE jump in technology. The pipe handrails, plastic strips hanging in doorways like a meat packing plant of today, just do not fit with the futuristic setting.

I thought the outside was fine, and I had no problem with the bridge or hallways, but the lower decks really lacked any kind of vison.

And it's made of concrete, and corrugated tin and has old fashioned "turney" valves.
