The New Artist's Thread (Warning: Large Image Size)

Re: The New Artist's Thread

Ah, okay. I haven't seen either. Those are nice sketches, though.

Re: The New Artist's Thread

Here's another Akira related drawing:

And a Roman soldier (copying a painting by the late Angus McBride):

Re: The New Artist's Thread

Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much lately, but here is a drawing I did for the "Imagine the 13th Doctor" thread a while back:

Re: The New Artist's Thread

^^ Not quite sure what to make of that one, but I like the others-- the cockpit one is especially well done.

Venardhi, that definitely looks Doctorish-- the lapel pin is a nice touch. :mallory:

Re: The New Artist's Thread

I like the first face in that trio, Ted. A lot of character in it.

Some random stuff, including the one painting I've retained.

If my photoshop skills were good enough I'd try to remove the ruling from this one. I doodled this during a class in college and have always been fond of it, excepting the lines and the girl's face. Faces have never been my strong suit.

Re: The New Artist's Thread

^^ Very nice and Pulpish. The face is fine. To remove the blue lines, try color selecting the black, select similar with a wide tolerance and copy and paste into a new layer; fill a new layer with a white background and merge the two. You might have to try a couple of times to get the tolerance right.

That's also an awesome Dinosaur painting. :bolian: The other picture is good, too, but I don't know quite what to make of it. :rommie:

Ted, that's more good stuff. I especially like the bunny. Nice detail and shading.

This is a wonderful imagining of the 13th Doctor -- very well executed and very Doctor-ish.

I'm going to have to go look up that thread now!

As for me I'm in the dip in my creative cycle. I did two complete paintings and started two others in three weeks, and now I've done nothing for a two weeks -- but that's the way it goes.

Re: The New Artist's Thread

This isn't new, but it's kind of cool news. My work picked this as one of three employee-submitted pictures to use on thank-you cards that will be given to local vets on Veteran's Day. I'm pretty flattered. :)

Re: The New Artist's Thread

Venardhi, the doctor is gorgeous!
Arrqh, your photograph is very impressive. Love the first one, especially.
RJ, I see why they chose your piece for a card. Very nice.

Re: The New Artist's Thread

I'm participating in an art workshop and these are some of the beginning drawings. I'm looking forward to improving. (Not my usual comic/cartoon style)

Self-portrait (that doesn't really look like me. LOL):

My hand:

A chair (and yes, I figured out what I did wrong with this one):

I think my biggest problem is patience. :p

Re: The New Artist's Thread

^^ Those are better than you think, even though the chair is broken. It's great to take lessons in a more realistic style, because this will improve your cartooning. The main problem with contemporary comic book artists is that they lack that training-- all they know is comics. The classic artists had a much wider range of education and experience to "draw" on.

RJ, I see why they chose your piece for a card. Very nice.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you like it. :)
