The new 3G iPhone announced

The problem I have is that I use the phone so minimally that I can't justify a contract - but I want an iPhone. :( I really need an iPod Touch as I'd make most use of the internet features over wi-fi, but then I have an 80Gb Classic too, and a Touch doesn't have the capacity.

What's a gadget lover to do?

Ordinarily I could care less about combined features, but the fact is that the vibrate on every phone I've had isn't enough to feel without my hand on the thing, and walking alongside traffic, even if I wasn't listening to the iPod, I'd still need to have my hand on the thing all the time to avoid missing my wife calling to pick up something on the way home from work, so the idea that I could listen to my iPod _and_ a call would be able to interrupt and I'd just need to take it out for the mike to pick up my voice is quite appealing. Otherwise I'd just have saved the pennies a bit longer and got the iPod Touch.

Ideally I'd have a cheap monthly tarriff and shell out a few bucks for the phone, but I suspect I'll end up having to go PAYG and cough up a lot more -- it may be too much to justify in the end for a bit of convenience which is a real shame...

Couldn't ;)

Exactly. I would make more use of it's Internet and PDA-type functionality than as a phone. Getting a Touch instead would be great (and more useful as an internet device around the home than my MacBook), but Wi-fi isn't that widely available. Whichever way I slice it I can't justify the cost, contract or PAYG.

I'll wait and see what they do with the Touch, and stick to my old but perfectly good V220 for phone use.
