The Net (USA Network Series)

Dingo

Captain
Captain
Does anyone remember this particular series from the 1990s? It starred Brooke Langton and Eric Szmanda and was based on the Sandra Bullock film of the same name.

I rediscovered the series via several YouTube videos and the Region 2 DVD release of the same series. I wonder what peoples' opinion was about this series?

I remember the Sandra Bullock movie, vaguely, but I had no idea there was a TV series based on it.

I must admit I watched the show mostly because of the girl, but I don't remember a single thing about it.

I watched it too, but can't remember much.

What I do remember is that in the first season, the main character is on the run, and is helped out by some sort of hacker,

Then in one of the other seasons they manage to bring down the evil internet terrorists, I think they had some sort of Roman name (can't be bothered to google it), and the main actress joins a law enforcement agency that specialises on Internet related crimes.

From what I can remember, the series was better when she was on the run, and it went downhill when she became an agent.

I thought it was a pretty neat series and still watch the DVDs personally. It was definitely a great plug for online security presented in an entertaining package.

I remember this show. The one episode of it I watched was the one where The Rock did a guest shot.

if I recall correctly it did shift gears half way though.

I caught an episode or two and was unimpressed. I found it rather Luddite and paranoid about the Internet. What I recall is a storyline where a member of Congress or something left his computer online overnight and had Internet porn downloaded onto it for his kid to see, or something, and so he launched a crusade to impose restrictions on the technology or something, and the script seemed to be endorsing his point of view, painting him as a victim of these eeevil forces on the Net. But I found that ridiculous. It's like someone leaving his front door wide open overnight and then blaming society when he wakes up and finds his TV's been stolen. It was the guy's own fault for leaving his computer logged on and unattended overnight, and for not having any kind of security (I'm sure they must've had some kind of firewalls or virus protection even then).

I remember it, but not much about it. The main thing I remember is that I liked Brooke Langton better than Sandra Bullock.

I did think Brooke Langton did a better job of acting than Sandra Bullock did as well. And also I'm glad I was able to find the series on DVD. It's available in Region 2 and Region 4 encoding...

I recently wrote a fanfiction called the InGen conspiracy based on what I remember from the Net. I wonder if it would be kosher to post it on our fanfiction board?
