Those are complementary viewpoints. IMHO that is a somewhat poorly written popular science article. Feynman's lecture was describing the classical viewpoint 1, not from the point of view of quantum electrodynamics to which he was a major contributor in developing (viewpoint 2). The cancelled series based on the SF story* Flashforward by Robert J Sawyer? Yes, I watched it, but the written work is better. I recall it's based on a relative state interpretation of quantum mechanics. The miniseries DEVS was also better than FlashForward. I had actual feelings of deja-vu as I've been to many of the locations where it was filmed. I didn't have to wonder why I had those memories.
You are under the illusion that external realities are basal, when in fact they might well emerge as projections of mental states. Travelling between different possibilities would then be a question of navigating consciousness between alternative mental states. I have no idea how one does that or even if it feasible. Those doors of perception are not open to me - but then "me" is perhaps but one of many branches of the illusion of consciousness that never uncover the trick.
