The nacelles really do it for me. You?

is anyone else in agreement that the radical departure from the original nacelles is an improvement?
I'm sure many will agree with you, but I do not.

In fact, I'm of the opinion that the design of the new Enterprise was made specifically with toys in mind. It looks like a toy.

---------------

I really hope the new movie's toy lines do well. Outside of, say, STAR WARS, BATMAN and Harry Potter most toy lines for films and film franchises fizzle because of limited appeal and support. Having lots of good-selling TREK toys on shelves this summer would help drive business to the film in the theaters as well as boost DVD sales when it comes out on home video.

I don't like the nacelles. The rest of the ship is fine, but those nacelles are huge and ugly. There also doesn't seem to be any angle to them. They look like they just come straight up from the engineering hull. I liked the angle in the TOS Ent.

This is what the new nacelles remind me of:

Now do it with ice-cream cones. Rocky road for me, please No, Drumsticks! :D

And can one of the ice cream scoops look like William Shatner?
Inhaling rainbow colored sprinkles?

After seeing the various angles of the new Enterprise, is anyone else in agreement that the radical departure from the original nacelles is an improvement?

Those babies look like they could carry the saucer and engineering sections and go - *BANG*! - Off we go at warp 9.whatever.

Yes?

Nooooooooooooo!

The nacelles wouldn't look so bad if the secondary hull was bigger. Either make the nacelles smaller or make the secondary hull bigger, because right now it looks distorted and weird, at least to me.
You know I have been thinking..ever since I saw the picture for the new 1701 I thought the same thing about the secondary hull and the nacelles(being scrunched so close to each other and the secondary hull looking weird) untill I realized that in the trailer when the Enterprise is leaveing spacedock the saucer looked bigger then what we have seen in the original series and tos movies. At first I thoght it was simply an illusion because it was so close to the screen, but later when the ship is at warp you can see behind the Enterprise and the saucer STILL looks wider then the rest of the ship!So I think(and correct me if I am wrong)that the secoundary hull IS actually the same size as the 1701/1701-a it's the saucer and nacelles that are BIGGER!

Based on the photos released thus far, it looks to me like the nacelles are on the verge of looking like they belong to another ship design. It is the least fluid part of the ship’s design IMO. With that said, I don’t hate the nacelles. I think it will utimatley take seeing the ship in motion on the screen to solidify my opinion.

In general, I like the look of the ship more and more as a whole.

I think 90% or more of the issues we have with the Enterprise redesign is based around proportion. Were the nacelles smaller or the saucer and stardrive bigger most of us would have few if any issues with what was done to change the appearance of the ship.

The engines do not do it for me, nor does the rest of the ship. It looks like a sports car, not a piece of military hardware.

I love the fact that the nacelles AREN'T the same from front to back...

In TOS they are just tubes with a round front and a round sphere in the back as well..

In TMP they are now rectangular-like from front to back...

Both designs are pretty, but I like the change that the engines are non-semetrical from front to back---large in front and tapering....

It preserves the look but is distinctive and new as well.

Also the changes are a lot more fun to talk about than simply recreating 100% the TOS look.

I don't think of this design so much in terms of the blueprinting and the still photos and the photos of the model that we've seen.

The "real" ship is in the November trailer, in context and in motion. IMAO it looks fabulous there.

Agreed. Right now I have a love/hate relationship with the design and this is exactly why. The design isn't bad, but the proportions make it look like as if it is. It's the same problem I have with the Galaxy class; it looks good except for the massive saucer.

The nacelles did it for me, but I had to pay them a hundred bucks. Each.

And they wouldn't even cuddle after.

Looks like the TMP Enterprise got into an illegal steroid ring or something. That starship would get called before the Federation Council Subcommittee on Prohibited Substance Abuse if it showed up in public like that!
