Yeah, I'm not entirely sold on Kermit's voice either but the performance was good enough. Far better than the asshole they made him into in The Muppets.

And just to be clear, I'm not knocking Matt Vogel personally. I have no ill will towards him, (and I enjoy his Constantine a lot) I'm just having trouble making his Kermit voice be the Kermit voice in my head. :)

I wish we could get a real 'both sides' account of what went down with Disney dumping Steve Whitmire. Coupled with Frank Oz also at one point expressing displeasure at the direction Disney was taking the Muppets, I can't help but side with Whitmire.

Yup, I agree with that. I think Vogel does a great job with the material he's given (not his fault the writers made Kermit into an asshole) and it just takes some getting use to his version of Kermit's voice.

I've sided with Whitmire this whole time. The only thing that gives me pause is I think someone from the Henson family (or a general statement from the family) spoke against Whitmire. I don't remember the details but that's what I recall from the time.

What especially made me bristle was how some people (I forget who, might have even been some from the Henson family) of this dispute pushed against Whitmire by saying he wasn't there from the beginning. While true, he had been part of the Muppets since The Great Muppet Caper and season three of The Muppet Show, where he originated Rizzo. Which is to say he worked with Jim for many years and certainly has insight on his vision and intentions.

As for Oz, he's always be very private and prickly, but coupled with Whitmire's dismissal and my own displeasure with how Disney has written the Muppets, I tend to agree with him here.

They really got the vibe right...
Seeing humans and muppets sit side-by-side in the audience was a bit weird though...

Although, looking back, it is something you wonder why Jim Henson didn't try it with the original show.
If you can a human host, why not humans in the audience.
Just accept it and move on.

Maybe it was just a bit dark, but it was magnificently executed and very entertaining. It played almost like an episode of the original series. Yes, I watched the original series regularly, first run, on NTSC, back in the day.

The OP's poll's a little jacked, but the special gets a "The most sensational inspirational celebrational Muppetational!" rating from me!

That threw me off, too, but it makes sense they would have a mixture of Muppets and humans. Perhaps it wasn't quite practical back then so I'm glad they're doing it now.

Plus, this gives me (and many, many other people) hope that some day I could be in that audience!

...I only just noticed the error and I looked at it multiple times to see how people voted. :o
