The Motion Picture question..

I think I could almost be at peace with the thing if a certain number of snips were made (like the guy fleeing epsilon 9), but since an edit-your-own-version option is not likely forthcoming (editing the music would be pretty impossible anyway, I think), I remain ambivalent.

I wish I had the skill to edit some of these sci fi greats. ... :vulcan:
Who the hell ... ? That doesn't sound like me! For one thing, I'd never use the word "ambivalent," certainly not in that context. Yeah, well ... I have my imitators, apparently, everybody wants to know what it's like to be me. And having experienced being me - First Hand - I can tell you it's pretty damn good ...

And again, improperly editing a quote backfires.

Over the years I've experimented with tightening TMP as an editing exercise, and it's actually pretty easy to cut several minutes out of it with some very specific trims. Some of the easiest are just getting rid of unnecessary commands and replies in the bridge scenes.

^ It's really easy to do! Often like a Three Stooges skit involving glue, once it gets botched, it's hard to un-botch it. Best always to try to be careful to begin with. :)

Fixed that for ya. :)

If I can't even edit a post what hope have I of editing a movie? Ambivalent should be our word of the day. Sums up these boards nicely.

Shatner himself sported a moustache as Kirk's dead brother.

See also the Earps in "Spectre of the Gun".

And Anton Kiridian.

And the guy in TMP wasn't even the first moustache in Starfleet...one of the tribunal in "Court Martial" had one.

The only editing that TMP needed was in the crew watching the viewscreen for ten minutes. Goldsmith's score was almost rythmically repeating, during that sequence, it wouldn't be too difficult to shorten. I would also add as much dialogue and crew intereaction as still exists and is available for use. Even Shatner's "Oh my god ..." during the transporter accident, I would keep. And no matter what, I'd be certain to keep the UFP logo, from the floor of STARFLEET COMMAND, in the shot where Kirk meets Sonak on Earth ...
