The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thread.

GhostFaceSaint

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
From Memory Alpha
You know Morn, he never shuts up.
- Quark (DS9: "Who Mourns for Morn?")

Morn was a Lurian who was a frequent patron of Quark's and his best customer. He was known to be highly talkative, and enjoyed a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. Morn owned a shipping business that specialized in the transport of various mundane cargos. (DS9: "Who Mourns for Morn?")

Why not indeed? I have a soft spot for Morn, and he's an essential part of DS9. :) I don't have much else to add at present, though I've always been curious about Luria. I'm glad we didn't see any other Lurians on the show, as they would have detracted from Morn's one-of-a-kind-ness, but I'm curious why the books haven't explored it.

How's that for a novel? Morn: The Untold Story (no dialogue of course, just a narrative description of his life so far ).

Gotta love Morn, I'd take him over several Trek regulars any day!

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

MORN!

Why not?

He appears in more episodes than one of the main cast (Jake), and he just sits there, giving us minutes of enjoyment, and Who Mourns for Morn is a great tribute to the character.

I would have liked to see a bit of Luria, if not on the show, then maybe in future novels.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

Hm...Morn's a funny joke, but aside from "Who Mourns for Morn?" not really much of anything as a character. I guess I think he's overrated.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

I think Morn was a likable character. It's interesting that we got to know him so well considering he never spoke a word.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

I loved it when the darts ended up in his chest. His eyes were very expressive. Watching the extras in the dvd's the interview with the actor was amusing because the actor was.. pretty much just like Morn.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

I always thought that the very last shot of DS9's last episode should have been Morn, still sitting at the bar, turning to the camera and saying "Cheers."

I was probably alone in that view.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Because I'm honestly not getting the "character development," aside from the aforementioned episode, that people are talking about. All it is is just one punchline after another, all on the same theme. Funny, but not a character.

It's kind of the same deal as Maris on Frasier...funny jokes, yes, but never really a character.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

^ I didn't really notice him properly until I rewatched the series for the second time. And I agree that he didn't really get much character development and that he was pretty much the same person throughout the series. The reason I think of him as a character is mostly the stories told about him when he was off-screen. Those fleshed him out more than the scenes he was in.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

Morn was a dick. He sold out his partners in crime and kept all the money for himself. Not only that he set up Quark, who is a friend, to take the fall and possibly be killed in the resulting situation when he faked his own death so he could betray his partners in crime.

Re: The most talkative and social DS9 member: Morn's appreciation thre

I think that was the point of the gag. He wasn't really a character, but a silent lump that was referred to as being garrulous.

No, I agree. Morn should've gotten the last word. He is awesome.

Oooo.. but I loved her.

The stories about her were VERY funny--on that I completely agree. But I would not actually call her a character...not even in the same sense as Bulldog or Noel.
Hmm, I don't know, I thought we got a very good idea of what she was like from the stories. A very exaggerated character for sure and perhaps a little cartoonish, but certainly a character.

Me too. Maris was a great character to me, and it was entirely due to Douglas Hyde Pierce's brilliant and repressedly patient recitation of numerous little tidbits about her.

Also it's funny she's been brought up because I can now engage in the pointless TV trivia of pointing out Morn's name is an intentional anagram of the iconic Cheers barfly Norm, and Norm's wife Vera was an unseen character similar to Maris.

Ahem. As far as Lurians go, I'm sure Morn has an obnoxious Lurian know-it-all friend who gets a trifle churlish should you dare to suggest that the Lurian postal service is less than ideal.
